National Conference ‘Horizon-2010’ Begins at FMMC

Mangalore, Aug 6: The two-day national conference on creating synergy in health care for excellence, ‘Horizon 2010’, was inaugurated at Fr Muller Medical College on Thursday August 5.
Dr Vinay Hegde, chancellor, NITTE University, Mangalore, inaugurated the conference and in his inaugural speech said that the medical industry without responsibility is very dangerous to patients and the prosperity of the hospital. He said that there should be synergy between the administrators, doctors, and the patients as people expect many things from the hospital.
“Such programmes are a good platform to discuss how hospital issues can be solved. Patients who come for free treatment and a patient who pays should both be treated equally by the doctors without differentiating between them. This programme should bring about a change in the mindset of doctors”, he added.
The keynote address was given by Fr Oswald A J Mascarenhas, chairman, St Aloysius Institute of Management and Information Technology (AIMIT), who defined quality and explained how it is important to all patients in health care institutions.
Allen C A Pereira, chairman and managing director, Bank of Maharashtra, inaugurated an exhibition of medical equipment stalls and craft work by the handicapped inmates of Fr Muller Charitable Institutions (FMCI).
Felicitation was done by Dr Jayaprakash Alva, dean, Fr Muller Medical College (FMMC) and the master of ceremony was convener Fr Reginald Pinto.
Delegates who came from Kerala, Bangalore, other parts of Karnataka, and Kasargod, were welcomed.
CMS of FMCI Dr B Sanjeev Rai, and Fr Richard Coehlo were among those present at the inauguration.
