Vijayapura: Car festival in violation of ban - Man crushed under chariot

Vijayapura, Apr 29: In a car festival held in violation of curfew imposed by the state government, a man was killed after having been crushed under the wheels of the temple chariot.

The incident happened at Basarakod village in Muddebhihal taluk on Wednesday April 28. The temple authorities had committed in writing to the local administration and the police authorities, duly confirming that the car festival would not be held. Still the festival was held by keeping it a closely guarded secret.

Elders in the village tried to hush up the incident through mediation and also talked to the family of the deceased, identified as Kariyappa Killeda (45), it is learnt.
