Bengaluru, Apr 29: As many as 15,000 persons with training in civil defence have been deployed for Covid management work in all the wards in Bengaluru, who will be entrusted with the work on identifying and isolating all Covid infected patients, home minister Basavaraj Bommai said in Bengaluru on Thursday.

Speaking to reporters after the video conference meeting convened by chief minister B S Yediyurappa at his home office, Bommai said he had directed the fire brigade to help in maintaining the cleanliness of the city.

Bommai, who is also in charge of the law and parliamentary affairs department, said another 8,500 home guards have been permitted to be used in Covid related work.

"We are ready to provide even more home guards if required,’’ he said.

The minister said he has directed that all the prisons must be sanitized as he has taken the Covid positive cases in jails very seriously.

The infected prisoners have been isolated and kept separately, he said pointing out that the situation was under control at present.

He said all the prisons and their maintenance will be reviewed in detail.

The minister said spurious Remdesivir drugs under the brand 'Made in Bangladesh' have been detected and the sale of the spurious drug has been entrusted to the CCB police for investigation. The police have already arrested a few persons and the persons behind the entire scam and its origin and other aspects are being probed, he said.

The home minister said he has asked the police officers to strictly enforce the curfew restrictions and not to allow any violations. The state government is very serious about controlling the spike in the second wave of Covid pandemic, he added.
