Congress trounces BJP in 10 local body polls in Karnataka, wins 120 out of 263 wards

Bengaluru, Apr 30 (IANS): The opposition Congress in Karnataka has trounced the ruling BJP by winning 120 out of the 263 wards in 10 local bodies across eight districts that went to the polls on April 27.

Surprisingly, even the Janata Dal (S) performed better than the BJP by winning 66 seats as against the saffron party's 57 seats.

While the BJP has been able to retain the Madikeri City Council, the Congress retained the Ballari City Corporation, besides winning the Bidar City Council.

Last time in Bidar, the Congress in coalition with the JD(S) had retained the Ramangar City Council, besides trouncing BJP in the Bhadravati City Council and the Teerthahalli Town Council in Shivamogga district.

After a long gap, the Congress has now trounced JD(S) in the Beluru City Council in Hassan, which is considered to be a stronghold of JD(S) supremo H.D. Deve Gowda's family.

The Congress also won the Gudibande Town Panchayat, where the BJP drew a blank.

In the Madikeri Town Municpal, the Congress put up a below par performance, managing to win only one of the 23 seats, while the SDPI won five seats there.

The BJP's performance in Shivamogga, which is the home district of Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurapa and Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister K.S. Eshwarappa, was far below par, as it managed to win only four of the 34 seats.

The elections to the Bhadravathi Town Municipal Corporation had gained importance after local Congress MLA B. K. Sangamesh had created a furore during the budget session by taking off his shirt to protest against the 'highhandedness' of the BJP. In the local body polls this time, the Congress managed to defeat the BJP by a handsome margin in Bhadravathi.

The Congress also managed to win the Beluru City Council in Hassan, a stronghold of JD(S) strongman H.D. Revanna, besides winning the Ramanagara City Council, which is considered the pocket borough of former Chief Minister and JD(S) leader H.D. Kumaraswamy.

The Congress has retained the Ballari City Corporation, where the BJP improved its tally from zero to 13 seats.

People of this country are slowly realising the meaning of democracy. After getting the votes the elected Member of the party forgets that we are democratic country and the citizens of this country can always question if there is disparity. Beginning of a new era in my sindhu desha ( India)…….. Arrogance, high handed ness, stupidity of my old party number 1 & 2...…..is very clear. Time for them then to go back to Gujaraat. As I said earlier...people of my country are not as stupid as these politicians. Politicians think they can make people dance to their tune, however in elections its people who decide the right tune. I had no answers when I saw politicians leading rallies, despite knowing we are in the middle of a massive pandemic, yet for the greed/lust of power these pea headed politicians were making people attend these rallies rightfully or wrong fully. I don't support any party or politicians these days, however I want to see a change in State & Centre for the greater good of our people/Country and especially to re gain our respect across the world, which is damaged by the actions of these two mota bhai, budda bhai.

For that matter, any government in present condition would be in same position. If non-BJP governments are really better, why severity is high in Mumbai and Delhi? But I dont blame Shiv Sena or AAP. I feel pity for them and try to help them in few means that I can. If you really want to blame someone for COVID, it is China who brought it. Blame it profusely.

Not Rahul Gandhi's popularity. Its BJP/Modi's mismanagement and handling of Covid situation in the country. Peoe ate facing unemployment, hunger and bictims to Covid due short supply of infra structure, ICU units, vaccines, beds etc. For them maintaining their powe throughout India was important. what prosperity they achieved since 8 years. Farmers are at stake. Cattle slaughter ban but export well planned . Double standards. Now they may call Army to help. Their ministers are hiding or taking voluntary quarantine for few months. I have nothing against congress except their minority appeasement, anti-hindu stand at times, dynastic politics,massive corruption, slavery to incompetent and corrupt Gandi family. Have they chosen domestic capable non corrupt leader, they had better chance nationally and could have been a credible alternative to BJP. That would have been good for democrasy. But i don't see sign of change in congress to move away from Gandhi family slavery. Till then they can only be happy about these local level victories ad nothing big going to come for them. People have seen BJP's election slogans viz-a-viz, actual performance specially with regards to inflation. People have observed party's own discipline, viz -a-viz, their advice to others, specially during election rallies about covid protocols and overall handling of covid situation. People have realized change of guard/ Government, hasn't benefited them anyways.
