About President ACS CL Cyprian Misquith :

ACS CL Cyprian Misquith was born and brought up in Mumbai and got his basic education at St. Ignatius High School, Jacob Circle, Mahalakshmi. During his youthful days, he was actively involved with the St. Ignatius Youth Association (SIYA) for 3 years organizing cultural and social activities for the parishners. He was a member of the Legion of Mary for 5 years in the same Parish.

He has completed his Masters in Commerce from the Mumbai University and attained a Diploma in Computer Science and is currently employed with W. J. Towell & Co. LLC (Building Materials Division) as the Finance Manager.

Cyprian is happily married to Gladys, a teacher by profession at the Indian School, Muscat and they have two lovely daughters, Chelsea and Gretel.

He represented the Petrus Toastmasters Chapter No. 5969 – District 79, Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Ruwi. His charismatic approach and leadership qualities were proved by his election as the Vice President – Education for the year 2004 and during this period he created a platform for members to develop their leadership potentials. The Youth Leadership Program, which he coordinated and conducted during April – May 2004 for the youth of the Parish, benefited the teenagers, immensely.

He was also a mentor for the “Taste the Toast” first of its kind public speaking workshop conducted by MCCP during October/November 2008 for its members. The successful workshop was attended by 35 participants from the MCCP community. He was an executive committee member of MCCP last year and served as Honorary Treasurer during 2009 – 2010. During this year 2010 – 2011, he is elevated to the post of Vice President – Sports and Finance Committees

Cyprian Misquith is an established and recognized Toastmaster. He has achieved the Advanced Communicator Silver Award (ACS) and the Competent Leader Award (CL) during this year. Last year, he was the Club Sponsor and Mentor of ABC Toastmasters Club. He was also the Associate Editor of the club newsletter that is being released every quarter and has been actively involved with the growth and well being of the club.

Commenting on the formation of ABC Toastmasters Club, ACS CL Cyprian Misquith narrated the following details to www.daijiworld.com :

“Taste the Toast” workshop conducted by the Mangalorean Catholic Centre of the Parish during October/November 2010 under the wise leadership of the then President, Mr. Clarence Pinto was the originating factor of ABC Toastmasters Club. This workshop was attended by 35 members and after the Grand finale of the event, some of the members wanted to improve upon their public speaking skills. ABC Toastmasters club was finally born on 9th March 2009 with only 6 members. The initial days were harrowing as if we were like hindi films heroes, doing more than one role during a meeting. Advanced Business Consultants were kind enough to give us a meeting place free of cost and as the membership increased, there was no place in the hall where we used to conduct our meetings. Again the greatness of communication and public speaking skills got us another sponsor, the Divine Restaurant managed by Nadan Trading LLC. They are our current sponsors and we hold our meetings regularly on Mondays at 8.15 pm to 10.00 pm. I fully believe that the Toastmasters movement can influence many people to join, because the meetings are highly motivating and inspiring. It is just over a year after the birth of this club and we are 32 very enthusiastic members who regularly attend the club meetings.

The new committee took charge of the club from 1st July 2010 with 29 registered members and has been able to increase the membership by adding 6 new members within a short span of time. The work put in for the annual day celebrations has been hectic and we expect a great response, however, my immediate focus is on the need for training and coaching our younger generation into developing their public speaking skills and to become leaders in this world. These refinements will help them grow in their career and achieve higher results. The Gavel Club should be an ideal platform to display their skills and that is on my mind. It will be the first ever Gavel Club in Oman.

At present, we have fairly experienced Toastmasters. Certifications achieved from the Toastmasters International, USA during the past one year include five Competent Communicators, one Advanced Communicator Bronze, three Advanced Communicator Silver and four Competent leaders. My aim is to motivate and inspire these speakers live their true potential and to push them to give their peak performance in every assignment they take up. The quality of every meeting, variety and the opportunity given to every Toastmaster for his personal development will motivate them in more interested members. I don’t like setting up too many goals for myself, my attitude or nature is show the people your quality of work and that will speak for yourself. However, if we keep these simple fundamentals on line, I can assure you that ABC Toastmasters club will soon be pregnant to deliver a new born baby club.”

Great job ABC Toastmasters. There appears to be a great deal of enthusiasm in the community and we are sure this trend will help you to spread the leadership skills unto many others in the prevailing society. Please try and encourage some Omani content because that will create a closer association between the vibrant Indian group in Muscat with the local community. Invite3 a few young Omani men and women as guests for casual social occasions. Toastmasters movement can create a close bonding between different cultures, and the Gulf region is the best place to make multi-cultural integration happen. Omanis have a strong intellectual power and it is nice to have the blend of different ethnicity and side by side enjoy a nice working as well as social environment by sharing the Toastmasters talents. Whenever some of you visit India do make it a point to visit other Toastmaster clubs and share your talents with them. Congratulations
