Euphoric over Success of Padayatra, Congressmen Boast of Regaining Power

Daijiworld Media Network - Bellary

Bellary, Aug 9: Euphoric over the unprecedented success of the 16-day padayatra from Bangalore to Bellary covering a distance of 320 kms and the mammoth rally in this steel city on the historic day of the launch of Quit India movement, the state Congressmen on Monday August 9 boasted that the party will regain power in the state and hoist the party flag on Vidhana Soudha.

The massive show of strength was attended by a mammoth crowd of over 5 lac people, if one were to go by the Congressmen’s estimates of 3 to 3.5 lac and as per the estimates by the state health and family welfare minister B Sriramulu – one of the key associates of the Bellary Reddy Brothers, who targeted the ruling BJP and chief minister B S Yeddyurappa regime for supporting illegal mining by the Bellary mining lords.

A battery of Central leaders, including union health minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and the cabinet ministers from the state like union law minister M Veerappa Moily, union external affairs minister S M Krishna, union labour minister Mallikarjuna Kharge, union minister of state for railways K H Muniyappa, deputy chairman of Rajya Sabha Rehman Khan, AICC secretary B K Hariprasad, former union minister Oscar Fernandes as also Congress opposition leader in the Assembly Siddaramaiah and his Council counterpart Motamma, KPCC president R V Deshpande, working president D K Shivakumar and almost all legislators and MPs from the state, who addressed the rally lambasted the Reddy Brothers and Yeddyurappa regime for illegal mining and declared that the Congress-led UPA regime would not remain a "silent spectator to the loot of the natural resources” by a handful of people.

Congressmen in the state had launched the 'Bellary Chalo' padayatra on July 25 accepting the challenge thrown at them by the tourism and infrastructure minister G Janardhana Reddy and revenue minister G Karunakara Reddy and their associate Sriramulu to enter their domain, and had been demanding a CBI probe into the entire illegal mining scam worth thousands of crores of rupees.

Homa, Havan and Bhajans to ward off Congress evil eye:

The Bellary Reddy Brothers, who had been reportedly directed by the party high command to stay put in the district to ensure that the Congress rally went on peacefully without any violence and also to be on hand in the event of any untoward incident, lambasted the Congress padayatra as a 'break-dance and free entertainment to the people' and the rally 'as a total flop show'. They declared that they would organise a 'massive homa, bhajan and havan' in Bellary city on Tuesday to 'ward off the evil eye of Congressmen' towards the pace of development ushered in by them.

The Reddy Brothers, Janardhana Reddy and Somashekara Reddy as well as Sriramulu, who addressed a news conference at their residence in Bellary immediately after the Congress rally alleged that the entire padayatra and rally was financed by Congressmen indulging in illegal mining. "Where did they get the crores of rupees for the padayatra and rally? Did the money come from the Congress mining lords – Anil Lad, Santhosh Lad and others?” Janardhana Reddy and Sriramulu asked and demanded that the Congressmen should enlighten the people.

If the Congress leaders, particularly Ghulam Nabi Azad and Mallikarjuna Kharge, accused their self-acknowledged 'amma' Sushma Swaraj, BJP opposition leader in the Lok Sabha, of taking 'huge loot' of illegal wealth from the Bellary Reddy brothers every year when she visits Bellary to attend the Varalakshmi pooja, Janardhana Reddy asked whether the state Congress leaders were "sending suitcases of ill-gotten wealth to their leader Sonia Gandhi” and asserted that they will not accept any baseless allegation against their leader. "The Congressmen should tender an unconditional public apology,” he demanded.

Ghulam Nabi Azad, who is also the party in-charge for Karnataka and quite familiar with the political developments here on account of his long association with Congress affairs in the state, accused the BJP ministers of 'looting the natural resources of the state' and declared that the Centre would not remain a silent spectator to this daylight robbery. "A handful of people will not be allowed to grab and dominate the state’s and country’s political landscape by indulging in illegal mining and unauthorized export of iron ore to enrich themselves,” he thundered.

"What is the source of Reddy Brothers’ wealth?"

"Where did these Reddy Brothers come from and what is the source of their wealth?,” asked Ghulam Nabi Azad, "15 years ago, when I came into close contact with the state politics as party in-charge, I had not heard of these Reddy Brothers. How did they rise to this position all of a sudden? They did not even have a bicycle then. Now they possess tens and thousands of crores of rupees. They own flashy cars and helicopters. How did they amass so much wealth and did they inherit the wealth? Their wealth is because of illegal mining and irregularities and reckless exploitation and export of precious mineral wealth. They control the government and dare to insult their own chief minister. This is shameful,” he said.

"How can one district, which has not seen any development and lacks infrastructure facilities and a handful of people who have overnight become mining magnates to threaten all democratic systems, dictate terms to the chief minister? The chief minister is so completely helpless that he cannot have his choice of persons as ministers or post or transfer officials in Bellary. The Centre cannot allow such a situation and will not allow a handful of people to loot the state’s and country’s mineral wealth,” he declared.

Union external affairs minister S M Krishna and union law minister M Veerappa Moily, both former chief ministers, declared that the Centre would not allow the reckless plunder of the precious natural mineral wealth. A handful of people with huge illegal wealth will not be allowed to derail the democratic processes, they said and warned that the Centre would come out with stringent measures to curb the evil.

Challenges and counter-challenges on by-elections:

Siddaramaiah, who was the star attraction and the key leader of the entire padayatra, said the Congress party was well on the path of recovery of lost ground. The revival of the Congress party has commenced and the partymen will not rest till they captured Vidhana Soudha. "We will take steps to expose the misdeeds of the government and the illegal activities,” he declared.

While Congress mining lords Santhosh Lad lambasted the chief minister B S Yeddyurappa for equating all those indulging in legitimate and legal mining with the same yardsticks as the Reddy Brothers and for banning genuine export of iron ore, his elder brother and Congress Rajya Sabha member Anil Lad challenged the Reddy Brothers to get all the nine MLAs elected on BJP symbol from Bellary to resign and facilitate by-elections. "I will get the Sandur Congress MLA Tukaram to resign. Let there be fresh by-elections and we will show who enjoys public support,” he declared.

Siddaramaiah, on the other hand, challenged the Reddy Brothers to prevail upon the chief minister, who is anyway under their control, to dissolve the state Assembly and enable fresh elections. "I will contest against Janardhana Reddy from Bellary,” he said responding to Janardhana Reddy’s challenge to face a by-election from Bellary city. Janardhana Reddy had declared that he would get his younger brother G Somashekara Reddy, elected from Bellary city, to resign to enable a by-election.

While KPCC president R V Deshpande and working president D K Shivakumar urged the chief minister to order a CBI probe or dissolve the assembly to seek a fresh mandate on the illegal mining issue, former union minister C M Ibrahim regaled the audience with his Sanskrit shlokas and vachanas from Sarvagna and criticism of the chief minister and Bellary Reddy Brothers.

BJP has rooted out Congress from Bellary:
.
Meanwhile, the Reddy Brothers and Sriramulu singled out each and every Congress leader for their speeches at the rally and asserted that they had ensured that the Congress was rooted out from the district. "Let them indulge any kind of tamasha. We will see that Congress does not come up in the district,” declared Sriramulu.

"Congressmen are dreaming of coming back to power merely because of assembling a crowd of 3 or 3.5 lac people. The BJP rallies held at Gulbarga and Davangere were attended by over 3 lac people. Let them wait and watch. We will show them what we are capable of when a host of developmental programmes will be launched in the district with a massive rally on August 20, which will be addressed by Sushma Swaraj and other BJP leaders including the chief minister,” Sriramulu said.

Sriramulu and Janardhana Reddy ridiculed C M Ibrahim for his cheap attacks against Sushma Swaraj and BJP leaders and reminded him that people know the kind of language he had used against Indira Gandhi and H D Deve Gowda. "He is now shamelessly trying to curry favours with Sonia Gandhi after being rejected by even Deve Gowda,” Janardhana Reddy said terming the former union minister as a 'circus joker.'

Janardhana Reddy said Ghulam Nabi Azad had proved his contempt for the poor people by ridiculing them as being unable to own even bicycles or having footware and now worth thousands of crores of rupees. "We have come up due to hard work and our own efforts. We have not cheated or looted anybody. All our activities are legitimate. Yes, we were poor and have now come up in life. But is there any law against the poor becoming rich or wealthy?,” he asked and said that they had changed the face of Bellary city and the district through developmental works while Congressmen had kept it backward.

See the difference between Congress and BJP?
Congress is willing for any probe into CWG. Investigations are on and few officials have already been sacked.
BJP says they are innocent but does not want CBI probe. Why are they scared?
You worship Mr. Janardan Reddy the same guy who destroyed a 200 hundred year old Sunkalamma Devi temple near Obalapuram with explosives on 3/9/2006 to carry out his illegal mining activities. Satish Kunder,Kuwait –You say the crowd was the power of the people. I want you to stick to it and not to change later since I guess even BJP will be having a rally in Mysore and in Bellary as well . The fact is election crowd is always purchased especially in undeveloped areas like Bellary ,it can be from any other party. If your memory is good, please reply me back what happened to the Flood relief funds collected by Congress party and was leaked by your own congressmen. You even say that iam a BJP spokesperson, Let me make it clear, iam no way related to politics and not bothered any party wins or loses. Regarding diverting the issue and making sensible comments ,Illegal mining started years back when Krishna was the CM and Reddys didnot exist.Diverting the issue from Naxal, Price rise ,Common Wealth Games is done by Congress by coming with these cheap tricks to gain political mileage. Iam happy that you are settled in Kuwait and commenting from there, since if you come to Mangalore ,you would have seen the Central government controlled national highways are still in pathetic condition and not completed since last 5 years. There are absolutely no roads to reach Mangalore and all thanks to you and your party.

It was really a massive show of strength and unity by Congress leaders. Siddaramaiah and others accepted the challenge of Janardana Reddy and marched to Bellary. It is no joke to reach Bellary covering 320 K.M. by padayatra. For 16 days they walked and walked. Finally addresing a crowd of over 3lacs in Bellary has made Bellary Bros to arrange yajna to ward off the `Vakra Drushti' of Congressmen. So far so good. But once the new KPCC President is elected,I am sorry, appointed, will the leaders maintain the unity?

If congress gains politically taking this well respected cause - so be it. Only cause and the results must dictate who should be in power. Not blind love. BJP had good opportunities but they failed everyone.

Some of the BJP supporters here are fit to be spokespersons of BJP.

As being done by BJP spokespersons, they will not discuss the core issue (in this case illegal looting of mines by Reddy bothers) but divert the subject elsewhere. But my advice to them is people can not be fooled all the time and if you continue doing so, BJP will be thrown out of power as being done during 'India Shining' campaign.

BJP has to take decisive action on the issue before it is too late. If Congress has become strong by this padayatra, BJP is solely responsible.

Congress supporters on this forum will be happy looking at the paid mammoth crowd in Bellary. Comments even poured in saying that BJP is wiped out!!! Guys! The same crowd will be back again on the BJP’s show of strength and definately be much bigger then this crowd since it will be the Reddy’s money.

In Bellary, party doesnot make a difference, its all money game which was started way back in 80’s by Indira Gandhi by just giving them free food and a bottle. Congress Amma is gone bankrupt looking at the fortune made by BJP Amma and cant stand BJP Amma getting richer and richer , now wants a share of it as well after the daylight robbery of Common wealth games.

The corruption involved in CWG had changed their name as Congress Wealth Games. People open your eyes and don’t just comment bad about BJP for this Bellary issue. There are lots of other issues which now getting hidden by Congress by diverting the attention of the common man including sky rocketing price rise issue , Kashmir issue, Naxal issue and now the world famous which is making our country proud through Common wealth games scam.

If yes, please make it public.

Now I will tell you another story..There is one more Amma from Italy. She contested from Bellary and won the election from there.
But later she ditched that place and forgot the poor people who blindly elected her. Infact she did a good job. She firmly assured the death of Congress in Bellary.

If this political party loose in one election, they want to topple the govt in 1-2 years and bring in election. You people decide what you should do to them.

Good show of strength. Now you guys have to do these two things first.
a.) Get the land authorities to redraw the border between Karnataka and Andhra which has been tampered by Reddy brothers.
b.) Reconstruct the historic 200 hundred year old Sunkalamma Devi temple near Obalapuram which was destroyed by the Reddy’s with explosives on 3/9/2006 to carry out illegal mining.

After witnessing the huge crowd which congress has gathered and after going through the comments in this column it is understood that no BJP voter will turn as congress voter.
Well, if we recall the 2008 elections, 65% of the 4, 20,00,000 voters cast their votes in which BJP has gained remarkable majority. It means 2,73,00,000 voters participated and the remained 35%- 1,47,00,000 voters didn’t shown interest on any parties .

There might be different reasons like in Dakshina Kannada district, Muslim/ Christian voters were not happy with congress due to the local leadership, as they remained neutral, which helped BJP to gain majority of seats. Earlier the said communities were blindly supporting congress and when gradually people get educated the trend has changed. This is one reason and there may be other reasons in other parts of the state which pushed congress into the corner.
We agree the arguments of BJP supporters that whatever comes or happens, their loyalty will never be changed. Yes, that’s true. Same the congressmen think that they may not gain votes from BJP sympathizers.
But, due to frustration, if 20% of the non-voters out of 35% turned into voters and favours congress, definitely the story will be different.
Here both the parties should think and work, how could they be able to earn the support from the new voters.

By this time Reddies should have resigned and relocated. But shameless Reddies coming out and talking to the media justifying their wealth is earned by legal means. If it so, why they are afraid of CBI enquiry and why they are obstructing Lokayutha Santhosh Hegde's report without taking action on it? People will not believe all their nonsenses.

Bellary Yatra has benefitted Yeddi more than Congress, as he could dare Reddies and take some action by closing ports for illegal export of iron ores in the name of Congress Padayatra.

These looters talking about 'Amma' and people do not know that what for Amma comes to Bellary every year in the name of Varlakshmi Pooja? People of Karnataka is very much aware that it is for Reddies looted Dhanalakshmi.

Yesteryear's poor now talking of capturing Karnataka by looted money and threatening a dominant Lingayat CM in the state. These poor went to an extent of toppling Yeddyurappa govt. last year. The teethless CM had no guts to transfer even an officer from Bellary and budged to the tactics of these non Kannadigas. He may do the same thing to their beloved Amma Susma tomorrow. Wait and watch with their ill-gotten wealth, they will buy the votes and become PM of this country one day as they have already been doing the same in Bellary district

Congress Padayatra has been successful in establshing public opinion against illegal mining by Reddy Brothers. So BJP has to take action against these looters so has to get people's faith back.

But it is unfortunate that instead of acting like a ruling party, statements by their leaders show BJP more as Opposition party to the opposition party.

Reddy Brothers and Eshwarappa thinks that by speaking street language against opponents they can score points. These people look very cheap to the public. Proper training should be given to them by BJP seniors to behave properly in public. By doing so further damage by these people to BJP can be averted.

Amazing to see the wonderful crowd gathered to show their solidarity to Congress. I watched and listened the entire coverage by TV-9 Kannada. Really the Congress has taken Yeddy Government to a political ride and I am sure Yeddy need to answer several issues pertaining to illegal mining in bellary. The true voice of Kannadigas echoing on the stage and around everywhere.Reddy brothres as well whoever involved are definitely accountable in coming days. The truth will survive and the people of Karnataka will not tolerate anymore nonsense and day light looting of our national wealth. The speeches delivered by Mr.S.M.Krishna,Mr.Kharge, Mr.Moily,Mr.M.P.Suresh,Mr.Shiva Kumar,Mr.C.M.Ibrahim,Mr.Sidda Ramayya and Ms.Motamma has been very aggressive and exemplary. All politicians are looting our country and divided the Indian common man (Aam admi) in to the group in the name of religion. I read various comments regarding this news from readers. I am posting my opinion on this.
As Congress ruling in central in the name of “Aam admi democracy “ but forgot to control the price hike which is a basic need of common man, Speculations over common wealth games, Failed control the Naxalites who have dare to attach on security system. Question strikes in my mind that what achievement they done? In Central, instead Congress price hike, insecurity is ruling on us.
In state, BJP Govt, We know they are the believers of Hinduism, made Hinduism as their Vote marketing Strategy. If they really believers of Hinduism then why the BJP Govt took back case of Reddy brothers against the demolition of 200 year Hindu temple for mining? This act is for Hindu or Against Hindu?
In Bellary while flood, Reddy Brothers announced to build several houses from their own pocket for flood affected people. But now they changed their mind. What steps took to reestablish the flood effected people?
Likewise in central opposition teasing to our Mr.Manmohan Singh name sake prime minister like wise in our state Mr.Yeddyurappa is a name sake chief minister, original power in hands of Reddy Brothers.
Before giving rest to my pen my opinion is majority all politicians in this country are corrupt and looters. They doesn’t have concern of their country instead of they are playing with common man’s emotions, looting our Tax money and valuable mines (which also effects to our nature).

It is differnt issue that congress will gain power in the next election but congress marketed well here by creating awareness. This, they could have done a long back. If they keep continue doing such attempts the government will not sleep but start doing good works. This is democracy and everyone has the right to do anything lawfully provided they should allow the government to complete it's 5 years term as they were elected by the people, democratically.
The sympathizers of the present government should take this positively. It is always good for the state that having a strong opposition in the assembly. But also right people should be chosen to run the government like Dr. Yediyurappa. It will be a tragedy if he is toppled by his own men. Seemingly it is going to happen because Reddys are moving in the different direction. They may choose Sriramulu for the CM candidacy after Dr. Yediyurappa. If it happens the ruling party is going to digs its own grave. Only the sensible party men can stop this happening.

Thank you daiji for publishing public concerns about the Padayatra.

This is looking like an election campaign. Election campaigning should be done at the allotted period and cannnot be extended by even one day. Then how come Govt. is allowing this tamasha to happen. Thousands of cops have been deployed, crores of rupees have been spent.... at whose cost? It is all tax payers money. If a trade union takes morcha for some genuine reasons, police will start lati (cane)charging. What kind of justice is this? Indian poverty can never be eradicated if these currupt politicians with no sense of duty or responsibility rule our country.

In the name of so called Padayatra these selfish congress politicians have used thousands of people's time for nothing. Shame on them.

If illegal mining was their problem, they should approach the court or legal authoritis. Are they not aware that State government and Central government have already taken action and either Lokayukta or CBI will start the investigation and some ruling will be in place. Come on guys ... Grow up. Big relief is that finally the Dombarata has ended.

All Political parties have thieves congress was full of Robbers in the past. After Sonia took over it’s reduced but not eliminated. Reddy's looted our state and Yeddy used that money in buying more n more MLA’s. Now he is afraid of Reddy’s growing power. Siddaramya should be the next chief minister of Karnataka. The intention behind this journey is nothing but to improve the situation of congress in the state. Hope the leaders can now sleep well counting the heads joining the show. If the actual intention was to stop the mine business then this would have done years ago while these people had the power. Surprisingly they are not taking forward the issue to the centre if so it will be head ache for the same party!? What about the mining which happens at Andhra Pradesh a few kilometers far from Bellary, i guess we are responsible for that too while killing the nature is the main concern? Its time for the BJP politicians to plan and organize a counter attack and spend the money on food and entertainment, well, of course a much better way (use govt funds!!).
