Bangalore: Refusal for Rallies Because of PFI's Terrorist Links - Govt

Bangalore, Aug 11: Making its stand clear in a writ petition filed by Popular Front of India (PFI) in the state High Court, the state government averred that it has definite clues about the outfit’s links with terrorist organizations.

The police department had declined to concede PFI’s request to permit it to hold rallies in Mysore and Udupi on the occasion of Independence Day. PFI had approached the High Court with a writ petition, questioning the police action. The state government told the High Court that a decision to refuse permission to the organization had been taken, on the basis of the information in its possession about its activities.

On the basis of the writ petition, the High Court had sought clarification from the government, and accordingly objections were filed by the government on Tuesday August 10.

The government said that the members of the said organizations are free to take part in the Independence Day functions being organized by the respective district administrations. It however, expressed its reservations against giving permission to the organization’s members to wear uniforms and hold separate functions.

After hearing the arguments, the single-judge bench of the court adjourned hearing.
