Mangaluru: Overlooking corona guidelines, people out in droves to buy essentials

Mangaluru, May 10: By making use of the 6 am to 10 am window provided in the curfew hours, the people went out of their homes in large numbers to buy vegetables and provisions early in the morning on Monday May 10.

A large number of people gathered on the road leading to the central market from the clock tower to buy vegetables and provisions. The crowd largely gave two hoots to the coronavirus norms. The police repeatedly pleaded with the people to maintain social distance. As the people were in a hurry to buy things, frictions arose between them and the police on a few occasions.

A large number of vehicles were seen on the city roads and the police had a hard time controlling their movements. In Mannagudda, people queued up before the fair price shop to get their quota of ration items.

In most of the provision stores and vegetable shops, a huge rush of people could be witnessed.

This is the direct result of weekend curfew. People are confused with two guidelines one from state and another from district and do not want to take any chances It is time that the rules remain consistent and do not change from Sun up to Sun down.

Vicky, Damaskatte - Your comments make me laugh. You remind of Kangana Ranaut!! Just like her you are trouble maker. Our country is suffering because of thinking like yours. True meaning of India i.e. Bharat is the union of states and a fusion of various religions, cultures, customs, heritage etc. If we Indians rise above our religious issues, we will be a Prosperous & Strong Nation.

The first wave was not dangerous, just like us , the virus wants to survive and become powerful, so it mutates. In the first wave of Covid only those who had comorbidities had problems ,in the rest more than 99% or more did not even have symptoms. If there was no lockdown , no mask and no social distancing last year,( all these are required for the second wave only) this non-mutated (first wave) virus would have spread in a natural way like any other respiratory virus.By June 2020 herd immunity would have developed.Health sector could have concentrated on treating comorbidities of patients ,so that Corona does not affect them. As many people would have antibodies, fewer would have needed vaccinations.Govt. could have pumped money in the vaccine manufacturing, and those who did not have antibodies could have been vaccinated fast- free in govt. hospitals for poor, paid at private hospitals, and the option to buy vaccines at the chemist and take the jab from the family doctor. There would be no queues at hospitals from where one would bring home the virus.THIS WAY THE SECOND WAVE WOULD JUST NOT HAVE OCCURRED, no migration of workers,no economic loss ,very low mortality , no hospitalization,no oxygen shortage etc.etc.

This is clear indication that the district administration has not learnt its lessons. Curfew or lockdown do not solve the problem. The district administration may argue that people stay at home during curfew or lockdown, but what about the gatherings during relaxation? The crowds are worse than those on a normal day, the reason being panic in the minds of people. But the district administration seems to be showing ಜಾಣ ಕುರುಡುತನ in this regard. Strict implementation of controlled movement of people and total ban on social, religious and all such gatherings would control the pandemic to a great extent. Where are the corporators, health inspectors, city corporation and other government office employees of the district? Why can't they be utilised in providing the required help to the people? The corporators are duty bound to serve their electorate, but they are conspicuous by their absence. Perhaps we need government servants and elected representatives with COMMONSENSE to administer the country. It is sad that we have to yearn for such people in the 21st century.

Kerala govt has also imposed lockdown. But in Kerala, the shops selling essential items such as milk, dairy items, fruits, vegetables, grocery, even meat and fish etc. are allowed to be open till evening upto 7.30pm. Individuals who step out to bring essentials are directed to fill a self declaration form with details of vehicle, copassengers and purpose of travel etc. Auto Rickshaws are allowed to procure essentials. For long distance journey for any unavoidable reasons, one can apply online for travel pass. I dont know whether these are exactly implemented or whether there are any problems for public. But, as per notified guidelines, one with genuine reason is allowed to travel. Especially, the timing provided to procure essentials is a good measure to decrease crowding of people. Why Karnataka govt. can't take these kind of meaningful measures.

NS BHAT, Mangaluru - Kerala is more organised than any other State in India. The officials there must have thought of ways to support their residents during the lockdown first and then announced the lockdown. In Mangalore, Officials just take decision on lockdown and let the people fend for themselves. Then they say public is not adhering to social distancing rules.

Insensitive or ignorant govt is causing more chaos and crowding due to illogical ever hour changing rules. I saw today many shops don't have stocks and by placing barricades on roads are creating blocks which again hampering smooth flow of traffic. This govt needs to learn a lot from newly elected Stalin govt. Which gave 2 full days time for people to get essential supplies and get their cooking equipments repaired as all shops can be kept open till 9PM.

Dear Vicky, you have always problem with Ghosh Biryani. Here people came out to buy essentials. In every comments you are trying to portray that there is problem from them and if we do NO PROBLEM. When there is news, "14-day complete lockdown in Karnataka from May 10 to May 24", there also you have written about Ghosh Biryani. Recently, I visited a famous hardware store in Udupi. When I was correcting the mask owner's son shouted "Put your mask properly!". When I was coming out from the shop, I saw the same guy speaking with his relative, both without mask.
