Bengaluru, May 10: The Apostolic Carmel Sisters at Jayanagar, Bengaluru, have been distributing free meals for 750 people in and around Jayanagar, Bengaluru.
The pandemic has firmly gripped our nation. Doctors, healthcare workers, medical staff, Covid-19 warriors and attenders are putting their own lives at risk with selfless determination for the sake of saving lives working from dusk to dawn.
The pandemic and lockdown have taken a big toll on daily-wage earners, the underprivileged and the homeless. Many elderly persons and poor people suffer as they are unable to get any support from others, a meal even, due to lockdown. These are challenging times we are currently living in.
Heeding to the call of the difficult times, after observing the pathetic condition, moved with compassion Sr Nirmalini, the superior general of the Apostolic Carmel motivated the Sisters to plunge into action and to share the goodness with our neighbours. This included Covid-19 warriors, doctors, nurses, helpers, patients, attenders, medical staff, of Jayanagar General hospital, Jayadeva hospital, Indira Gandhi Children’s hospital, workers of BBMP wards of Jayanagar, Thilaknagar, JP Nagar and Gurappanapalya and the children, families, poor and hungry of the surrounding slums of Jayanagar.
Every morning the sisters of the Apostolic Carmel Generalate and Lourdes Convent cook the food and make packets with the assistance of Rosie, the social worker and Babu who taken them for distribution. Sr Nirmalini the superior general, personally involves herself in this Herculean task of delivering the food packets although times are challenging and dangerous. Every day the food is distributed to different hospitals and slums by the social workers. This act of kindness and love spread through the sharing of food by the sisters of the Apostolic Carmel brings a smile to the face of people who receive it with gratitude.
This Covid-19 support service project was launched on May 3, by the Sisters of the Apostolic Carmel, Jayanagar Bengaluru. Sr Nirmalini AC the superior general enthuses her sisters saying, “This current experience of Covid-19 is giving us an experience that we are one humanity. We need to take individual responsibility to look after the common good and overcome our fears and anxieties. All the same, we want to walk together to lend our helping hand to lighten the sufferings of our people. Let us continue this noble work of feeding the hungry and needy by accepting the measures and sacrifices that allow us to contribute to the good of our brothers and sisters during these difficult times.”
