Tulu movie actress and veteran stage artiste Jayasheela has been chosen for the Tulunada Tulusree Award by Akshara Pratistan, Aladapadav, near here, informed Pratistan president Dr Ramakrishna S and convener A Gopal Anchan.
 
Akshara Pratistan has been conferring awards in recognition of extraordinary service in the field of Tulu literature, art, and culture, since the past seven years.  The Award has been presented to P S Rao, Pa Ramakrishna Shastry, Thukaram Poojary, B R Kulal, K H Dasappa Rai and Janaki Brahmavar in the past.  
 


Jayasheela has been chosen for her significant contributions over many years in Tulu movies and stage plays. 
 
The award will be conferred on Sunday August 15, during the ‘Atidonji Dina’ programme.
 
Jayasheela is a resident of Maroli in Mangalore who took an interest in stage plays since her childhood.  She joined Sri Stree Nataka Mandali, promoted by R Nagaratnamma, in Bangalore in1972.  She became famous as ‘Mangalooru Meenu’ through her distinct acting in various Kannada plays – ‘Sri Krishna Garudi’, ‘Sri Krishna Leele’, ‘Sounsara Nouke’, ‘Sampoorna Ramayana’, etc. 
 
Jayasheela returned to her hometown Mangalore for health reasons and joined Sri Ganesha Nataka Mandali, promoted by K N Tailor.  Since then, she has served the Tulu stage over the past three decades, performing in ‘Erenla Nambodchi’, ‘Kandane Bodedi’, ‘Dever Korper’, etc. 

She has also served in drama troupes such as Kadalanadu Kalavidaru, Kalasangama Kudla, Chitrakala Arts, Sangama Kalavidaru, Nataka Ranga Udupi, Samudaya Mangalooru, Ranga Taranga Mangalooru, and others.
 
She has acted in Kannada, Tulu, and Tamil movies besides earning laurels for her acting in Tulu telefilms like ‘Dharma Itt Mann’, ‘Tunturu Janma’ and ‘Chirasmarane’.
 
Fifty-four-year-old Jayasheela resides in Mangalore and has been acting for the past 37 years. She has performed in the district, Karnataka, and abroad.  She is still active in her chosen career as a stage actor.

    I have see Mrs. Jayasheel when she came for drama play at ullal, Mogaveera primary school. If i have not mistaken she had boy cut hair on those days, It was on around 1980's.

    Good job. She is an great actor and being an stage actor my self, I admired by her good,heart touching, 100% involvement in her part. Expecting more stage shows by Jayasheela and wishing her all the best.
