Mangalore, Aug 12: Seventy-year-old A Eshwarayya, veteran Kannada cultural reviewer of ‘Udayavani’, coastal Karnataka’s leading Kannada daily, was felicitated at a function held at Town Hall on Thursday August 12.

Dr D Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadikari of Sri Kshetra Manjunateshwar, Dharmasthala, presented Rs 1 lac to Eshwarayya of ‘Kala Vihari’ fame.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Heggade said that the media in current times gives much coverage to classical music and arts. He commended the felicitation of Eshwarayya, an art reviewer for the past many years, at a time when Tulunadu culture including Yakshagana is in revival mode.

Eighty-six-year-old veteran journalist M V Kamath said, “The future of art depends on effective reviews. Tulunadu culture is fast losing its sheen. We are divided along the lines of language and we will be stuck with our own language to improve in the future”.

Kamath further said that art reviews are widely accepted in the European nations, but in India it is yet to make an impact. “Art improves with constant review by the professionals from time to time”, he added.

Alvas Education Foundation chairman Dr M Mohan Alva presided over the programme. Karnataka Bank chairman Anantakrishna, and Prof V Arvind Hebbar, secretary, Ragha Dhana – Udupi, were present on the dais.

Padmashree Kadri Gopalnath, honorary president of the felicitation committee, welcomed the gathering. P Nithyanand Rao proposed the vote of thanks.

Ganga–Kaveri, a musical concert by Vidwan Pranesh, Praveen Godkindi, and Vidwan Anooru Anantakrishna Sharma, was held on the occasion.
