Mangalore: Litterateur Edi Netto Receives ‘Konkani Kutam–Bahrain Award 2010’

Mangalore, Aug 13: The ‘Konkani Kutam–Bahrain Award 2010’ was conferred on veteran Konkani writer and columnist Edi Netto, in a function held at St Sebastian parish auditorium, Bendore, on Friday August 13.
 
Fr Richard Coelho, administrator, Father Muller Medical College Hospital, presided over the function and did the honours. He draped a shawl around Netto and presented him flowers and fruits besides presenting a cash award of Rs 50,000. 

Fr Coelho said that he used to read the articles, columns, and short stories penned by Netto and X M Udyavar in Konkani weekly ‘Raknno’ and journal ‘Amchi Mai’ while he was in the seminary.
































He commended Konkani Kutam–Bahrain for supporting Konkani litterateurs and contributing to the medical care of economically weaker community members.  Fr Coelho also conveyed his best wishes to Richard Moras, promoter, Konkani Kutam – Bahrain. 
 
He urged Konkani organizations to encourage community youth to take an interest in the Konkani literary field when in schools and colleges. 
 
Stephen Mascarenhas (Hemacharya), editor-in-chief, Daijiworld Weekly, read the citation letter and gave a brief introduction of Netto.

Walter Nandalike, editor-in-chief, www.daijiworld.com, said that Netto has educated the community on various topics including politics.  His columns give exhaustive details of every topic and his short stories depict the harsh realities of the community.

J A Noronha, president, ‘Rachana’, was the chief guest on the occasion.  He said that it is due to fostering of Konkani litterateurs by such organizations that Konkani excels in the world.
 
Veteran musician Melvin Peris said that he was happy to attend this function as a Konkani litterateur was getting his due honour.
 
Netto, in recognition of the honour, said that he remains grateful to Konkani Kutam–Bahrain for their support in his literary work.  He also expressed thanks to the publishers of his literary works and sought support for his future endeavours.
 
Sandesha Foundation students staged a welcome dance.  Ace compere Titus Noronha compered the programme.

THE PRESIDENT OF THE ASSOCIATION MR.RICHARD MORAS IS A GREAT PERSONALITY AMONG THE COMMUNITY AS WELL AS BAHRAIN KANNADIGAS. HE HAS BEEN AWARDED A PRESTGIOUS "KARNATAKA RAJYOTSAVA AWARD" BY STATE AWARD WINNING KANNADA SANGHA BAHRAIN FOR HIS CONTRIBUTION TO THE COMMUNITY.
