Moodbidri, Aug 15: It was a grand display of patriotism as nearly 8,000 students gathered at the Sundari Ananda Alva Campus in Vidyagiri, Moodbidri, to celebrate Independence Day on Sunday August 15 with great zest and spirit.

Dr Ravishankar Rao, reader, Department of English, Mangalore University, hoisted the tri-colour and said that freedom fighters sacrificed their lives to save the nation from the British so that Indians could be independent and live as equals.

“Though it is the 64th birthday of the nation, India with all its developments on one side is facing many problems like poverty, inequality, and lack of education. People have to support each other to grow in all aspects, thus helping the nation to grow”, said Dr Rao.

“We have to be proud to be Indians as this is a secular and democratic nation. We have all the freedom to follow any religion and think creatively to make the nation strong”, he added.

The army wing of the college escorted the guests to the dais.

The Mother Teresa brass band, Honnavar, and Alva’s College band added extra flavour to the celebrations.

An ever green event to these young Indians. The spectacular view filled the heart. Remembered the celebration and procession we used to have in school days .It has been a day we dream of and were praying god not to be washed away due to rain. Due to the monsoon season many times it was happening to be disappointed due to rain.
Mr. Alva remained a role model to the millions. This wonderful event is a model for every Indians as “Yatha Raja Tatha Prajaha”.Participation in this event will inject such a drug of patriotism, which will be for the life time. Wherever we live, this makes me proud to be part of this holy land.

    Jai Hind!!!!!!!!!

Well done Mr. Alva. good job towards the education for our younger generation. But much our regret,we find that, we don't have good hospital in Moodbidri. The existing hospital is old, dirty uncivilized manner. So I request you, please Mr. Alva, look into this matter, and build a good and big hospital with all basic necessities, so that we don't have to travel all the way (36k.m.)to Mangalore searching better treatment for our patients in big hospitals.

    Thanking you in advance.
