Brahmavar, May 19: The state government is inclined to give a thorough facelift to Varunatheertha pond that has rich historic and mythological background, which is located at Kota.

Estimates for the renovation of the pond have been prepared by the department of minor irrigation. A proposal involving ten crore rupees has been submitted under the leadership of minister Kota Srinivas Poojary and MLA Halady Srinivas Shetty. A sum of one crore rupees has already been released by the department of religious endowments. On Monday, under the leadership of Vedamurthy Madhusudan Bairy, foundation stone was laid by the president of Kota Amriteshwari temple trust, Anand C Kunder, to the accompaniment of religious rituals.

Saligram Gurunarasimha temple trust member, K Ananthapadmanabha Aithal, Kota Amriteshwari temple priest, Ramanath Jogi, first class contractor, Sunil R Poojary Belagavi, Kota gram panchayat president, Ajit Devadoga. Kotathattu gram panchayat president, Ashwini Dinesh, entrepreneur, Venkatesh Prabhu and others were present.

The project of the minor irrigation department envisages diversion of water from river Varahi from Beloor gram panchayat and usage of water to the optimum during the summer.
