Kundapur, May 24: MLA of the taluk, Halady Srinivas Shetty said that all are working with good cooperation to handle the Covid pandemic situation in the taluk. Thermal scanners and Pulse Oximeter for Asha workers will be purchased from the grant of the MLA fund. Similarly, a Covid care center of 100 beds will be made ready.

Shetty spoke at the Covid control meeting under the Kundapur legislative constituency that was held at the auditorium of taluk panchayat on Monday May 24.

Halady Srinivas Shetty further said, “The public should not be negligent about their health. All should be alert. The task force is working under the limits of the Kundapur constituency which has 37 panchayats, one town municipality and one city panchayat. Action should be taken by these bodies to control Covid effectively. Required assistance will be given through the government and donors.”

Giving information on the present status of the pandemic, the medical officer said, “More than 480 throat swabs are tested every day. The positivity rate is 24. Those who have Covid symptoms and their primary contacts are being tested. From April 1 to date, 51 people have died due to Covid in the Kundapur constituency. 14 people have died under the limits of Kundapur town municipality.”

Instructions were given to apply red tapes around the house of covid positive patients and also to bring people in serious condition to the hospital with the help of the police if they do not agree to get admitted to hospitals. It was brought to the notice of the MLA that Asha workers need a Pulse Oximeter and thermal scanner.

Dr Nagesh, Covid nodal officer of Kundapur government hospital said, “95 people are taking treatment for Covid at Kundapur government hospital. Six are in ICU. One is on the ventilator. So far, 708 people have got treated in the hospital.”

Dr Nagesh also brought to the notice of MLA Shetty that there is no pediatrician in the Covid hospital of Kundapur. There are two positions, while one is on leave, the other one is deputed to Kota hospital. In addition, a fogging machine is required to sanitize the ambulance of Kundapur government hospital.

A C RAju, CEO of taluk panchayat Keshava Shettigar, DySP Srikanth, Udupi Sudhakar Nayak, tahsildar and taluk medical officer Dr Nagabhushan Udupa were present.
