Mangalore: Kukkaje's Photo Expo Eventful - Crowds Flow in, Sessions Draw Enthusiasts

Mangalore, Aug 21: Hordes of students, general public, prominent personalities and many VIPs visited the photo-exhibition of daijiworld’s ace photographer Dayanand Kukkaje on the second and final day of the exhibition on Aug 20, 2010, organized at St Aloysius College Auditorium, Mangalore.
The visitors who came to witness the exhibition were also treated to a talk on photography by photo-journalist of Udayavani Astro Mohan followed by an interactive session in the fore noon.
On the first day of Expo, an interactive session was organized with leading photographers Yajna and Ravi Posavanike of Times of India eliciting good response from the student community as well as the general public.
Astro Mohan, who speaks as beautifully as his photographs do, took the participants into the deep, beautiful, captivating and interesting world of photography. Having armed with a vast experience in the field he freely shared his vast knowledge in the field dealing with the finer and intricate aspects of photography much to the delight of those assembled. That the interactive session was interesting was evident from the fact that a session scheduled for an hour went beyond two-and-a-half hours and none complained.
In his talk Astro Mohan focused on how photographs can be used to promote tourism. He said India is a wonderful country having some marvelous locations which are not captivated fully through photography. Very fascinating photographs can be shot and utilized in our country itself and by exhibiting in a planned and systematic manner more and more tourists can be oriented to visit our country. In the process he displayed some of the delightful photographs he had shot when he had visited Bangkok. He also stressed the importance of preserving such photographs. Along with the Thai pictures depicting their culture and life style and their similarity with many Indian locations, Astro also showed some wonderful pictures he had shot in his native place Udupi.
Commenting on Dayanand Kukkaje’s photographs, Astro said “his photographs reflect the innermost feeling which is the vital aspect of photographs. Though the technical aspects are necessary, they are secondary. The feeling conveyed by the photographs are important and they can take the photographer to greater heights. Daya’s pictures have a feel and they are heart-touching”.
Special guests of today’s session were Titus Noronha, Manohar Prasad, Chief of News Bureau, Udayavani Kannada Daily and Louie Pinto of Mandd Sobhann.
The two-day photo-exhibition has attracted students and people from different parts of the district who visited the exhibition in large numbers on Thursday August 19. On August 20 there was a steady stream of visitors from morning itself. Prominent among those who visited the exhibition are Bishop of Bellary Henry D’ Souza, former minister Ramanath Rai, mayor Rajani Dugganna and deputy mayor B Rajendra Kumar, Ganesh Rao of Shree Devi College, Anand K, regional manager, marketing, Udayavani Kannada Daily, Roy Castelino, president Konkani Prachar Sanchalan, corporator Ranganath Kini apart from many art lovers from different parts of the district.
The talk and interactive session by Yajna and Ravi Posavanike on August 19, was also a grand success. The interactive session with the photo journalists was interesting specially to young journalism students who were keen to learn the finer aspects of photo journalism. Fr Richard Rego, head of the department, mass communication department, St Aloysius College, Daijiworld-weekly editor-in-chief Hemacharya and Daijiworld Publication director Dayan D'Souza were the special guests at the talk and interactive session held on August 19. The visitors have given encouraging comments about the exhibition.
The two-day programme was compered by Leslie Rego in his usually inimitable style and flamboyance. The photographic exhibition was organized by Daijiworld.com to mark its decennial years in association with Radio Sarang and department of mass communication, St Aloysius College, Mangalore.
