Mangaluru, May 29: The play grounds and sports stadiums of the city were always buzzing with activity regardless of the weather. However, due to the lockdown announced by the state government these are deserted.

Many tournaments that were fixed in summer are cancelled. There is no opportunity for sports persons to get trained also. Urwa grounds, Nehru Maidan and Mangala stadium where there will some sort of sports competition going on have lost their lustre.

Monsoon is going to start within a few days. Except indoor sports activities, there is no scope for any outdoor sports during this season. Though football and rain cricket is organized in some places, it is doubtful that the same might be held this year due to corona lockdown. If everything goes right around September or October activities may begin again.

Lockdown had badly affected the practice of national and international level sports persons, who need to keep themselves physically fit and their game skills also. This will cause a bad effect on their future sports career also.

Some cricket lovers have continued practice by playing at the verandah of their homes. Even shuttle badminton can be played inside the compound of the house. In rural areas, youth engage in football and cricket games evading the watchful eyes of police.
