Mangalore: Billavas Dubai and Northern Emirates Distribute Scholarship to Needy Students, Achievers

Mangalore Aug 22: Billavas Dubai and Northern Emirates (BDNE) organized a student scholarship distribution programme at Koragappa Memorial Hall at Gokarnanatha Temple, Kudroli here on Sunday August 22. While, four students were awarded for the excellence in the studies, 299 students awarded scholarships with eight people in need of medical assistance handed over the cheques.

Mangalore City Corporation commissioner Dr Vijayprakash inaugurated the programme.

In his inaugural speech, Dr Vijayprakash said that in the present world of business most of the parents teach their children to concentrate on personal and family development, which needs to be changed as we have to strive for the development of the society. Achievement does not serve its purpose by being rich or getting settled in a good position. The definition of achievement is fully modified to be financial achievemnt in the present world, where as the real need is to serve people of the society leading to development of the nation, he said.

BDNE president Mohan Attavar said that the scholarship was distributed on the basis of the detailed study and surveys done by Guru Charitable Trust and the students need to utilize the same in a best possible way and score highest grade with a goal in mind of achievement and not caring for any financial problems obstructing the studies.

Stating that the help of the association shall be never forgotten by the student, he said scholarship is the hard-earned money form people living abroad and donated to the welfare of the poor students.

After association autjorities watched the achievements crusader of Tulu language and culture Tukaram Poojary from Bantwal through the Daijiworld TV, the association decided to honour him on the occasion. They also thanked Daijiworld for support received in the past.

The authorities informed that though they can’t form association abroad they still conduct social programmes since nine years. The association is planning to make a Billava Institution, but before that they were contemplating a trust in the district which will help them achieve their goals.

Vice-president Pravin Kumar Attavar, treasurer Vittal Poojary, builder Ganesh Bangera, members of association Mohan Bangera, Jeetendra Suvarna and Samyuktha school teacher Adve Ravindra Poojary were among the guests.
