Mangalore: Hunt for Konkani Talent Gets Massive Response

Mangalore, Aug 24: “The Hunt for Konkani Talent” in the district level inter school & inter college Konkani variety entertainment competition held on August 22 at Canara High School Campus vividly represented Konknai art, culture, tradition, lifestyle and customs in all its vibrancy.

The competition which was conducted in three venues of the Canara School campus separately for primary, high school and college students, had elicited tremendous response from schools and colleges from different parts of the district. Different teams vied for top honours in various categories such as best group event, best solo event and best MC in addition to the prestigious Best Team Rolling Trophy.


 

There were altogether 38 teams in the 3 different categories with the High school section getting a maximum of 19 entries. The teams were required to present variety programme of 20 minutes duration having songs, skits, dance, mimicry, stand up comedy, story telling, Konkani ethnic fashion show, vovyo, huminyo or any other culture representing Konkani community.

In the college category students of St Aloysius degree college emerged winners by bagging the best team rolling trophy, in the High School Category Canara High School (main) won the Best Team Rolling Trophy and in the primary section the trophy went to S V S Vidyagiri, Bantwal.

The competition was organized by Konkani Language and Cultural Foundation in commemoration of the 18th anniversary of inclusion of Konkani in the 8th schedule of Indian constitution. It was the first of its kind of competition that gave an opportunity for Konkani speaking students of the district to showcase their talent in Konkani language. The winners in all categories were awarded fabulous cash prizes and trophies and certificates to all the participants. Marks were allotted for originality, presentation, entertainment value, costumes, language and Konkani cultural heritage.

The day long event was organized with lot of attention and care keeping in mind the convenience of students and parents who had come from far off places. All arrangements were made for their breakfast, lunch Tiffin, dressing rooms, drinking water, toilets etc,.

The winners were given away cash prizes, trophies and certificates in a stage function held soon after the competition. Kudpi Jagadeesh Shenoy, Annappa Pai and Basti Vaman Shenoy gave away the prizes to the winners.
