Mangalore: New IGP Takes Charge without Fanfare

Mangalore, Aug 27: With the climate playing spoilsport, the Kinfisher flight from Bangalore, which was to land here in the morning on Thursday August 26, went back. The new inspector general of police (IGP - western range), Alok Mohan, who was travelling in the said flight, took charge in a simple ceremony in the evening, as the programmes arranged on the occasion of handing over charge by the outgoing IGP had gone awry by the time his flight touched down at the local airport again at about 2.20 pm.

At the same time, IGP, Gopal Hosur, who has been transferred to Bangelore, relieved himself from his post on Thursday, by vesting the charge with Dr A Subrahmanyeshwar Rao, superintendent of police (SP), Dakshina Kannada district. The customary press conference of the IGP scheduled in the city at 1 pm on Thursday could not materialize. Several programmes including press conference in connection with the taking over charge by the IGP, have been slated to be held today.

The new IGP arrived at the office of the IGP in the evening and took over charge as the new IGP. Police commissioner, Seemant Kumar Singh, district SP, Subrahmanyeshwar Rao, and other police officials presented a guard of honour for the incoming officer.

Alok Mohan, who hails from Patna, is an IPS cadre officer belonging to 1987 batch. He holds MSc and M Phil degrees, and has functioned as assistant superintendent of police in Puttur and Udupi. He had earlier worked as the SP of Uttara Kannada district and director general of police in the forest intelligence squad. Before being posted here, he was the IGP in the vigilance and enforcement cell of KPTCL.
