Mangalore: Social Evil to be Dealt Severely, Assures New IGP

Mangalore Aug 27: The new Inspector General of Police (IGP - western range), Alok Mohan, assured that the department will work intensively to curb the social evil in the district and meet the expectations of people.
He was addressing the media persons at his first press conference after assuming office here on Friday August 27.
Speaking about the role of media in creating public awareness about the department’s activities, Mohan said that it is through media that the general public will be informed about crime or other such happenings and the role of police in tracing them. Hence a healthy relation between the department and media is very important, he emphasized.
He also urged people to give timely feedback on the cases which have not been handled properly or which might have gone unnoticed, so that the police can act on it and clarify immediately.
With the development of cities the activities of terrorists and naxals are also increasing which will be handled to the best of their ability as the department has good and sincere officials, he added.
Professional and Public Service Experience of Alok Mohan
Mohan Joined the Indian Poice Service (IPS) in 1987 and has public service experience of 23 years at State, National and International level. He served as Assistant Superintendent of Police and District Superintendent of Police in various districts in Karnataka. He was the assistant Inspector general of Police at police headquarters, Bangalore and at Central Industrial Security force (CISF headquarters) New Delhi.
He has also served as the Deputy Inspector General of Police, State CID, Bangalore, Joint Police commissioner (crime) Bangalore City, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Bangalore Metropolitan Task force (BMTF) Bangalore and IGP, Vigilance and Enforcement KPTCL and all ESCOMs energy department Bangalore.
At the international level he has served as the Commander, International Police Task Force (IPTF), UN Peace Keeping Operations Bosnia Herzegovina and had completed command course with British Police.
He has been awarded the Director General’s Commendation Disc, UN Peace Medal, and Police Medal for meritorious services by the President.
