Mangalore, Aug 31: The Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) called a meeting to discuss issues such as food adulteration, water bill issues, and problems related to roads with corporators, engineers, and other members here on Monday August 30.

MCC mayor Rajani Dugganna said that she will continue the ‘water Adalath’, which was followed by her predecessor Shankar Bhat once in 15 days at the city corporation to solve water bill issues. Several cases regarding discrepancies in the bills have been resolved after the officials discovered that there were problems with the water meter, she said.

MCC commissioner Dr K N Vijay Prakash said that arrangements will be done for bills to be collected by the banks four days a week and by Mangalore One at the earliest.

Speaking on adulteration in fruits and vegetables where carbide gas is used to ripen mangoes, bananas, and sweet limes within 24 hours and give them good colour, and instances where poisonous dye is mixed with food, Dr Vijay Prakash said that notices have been sent to fruits and vegetable vendors and serious action will be taken as per the Food Adulteration Act of 1954 and Section 44 AA of the Prevention of Food Adulteration Act against those who add such chemicals.

Corporator James D’ Souza said that the highway department has become careless and has shown its disinterest by not attending the meeting.

He added that National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has not replied to the letter sent by the mayor about the ongoing repair work on the roads. He said that the rest of the roads were filled with soil.

Some of the corporators’ questions went unanswered and they were disappointed as the time for discussion was too short.

According to Mr James Dsouza honorable Member of Mangalore City Corporation the highway Dept Is not attending meetings Then What is the next alternative all 3 Highways are in such a bad Mess that the huge craters on the roads can be converted as ponds so that nearby residents can rear fish that can feed Mangaloreans who never come out in force including me.we have many , Social/unsocial groups from Hindus/Muslims/Christians who can come together and make the roads in Mangalore and mostly in the outskirts who use the Highway roads to reach far away places safe for using since our BANKRUPT and IDEOLOGICAL GOVERNMENT both in center and state is doing nothing but increasing wages for our DAMNED MPs and MLAs who just visit sponsored venues just for ribbon cutting and false assurances. With new hikes in Salaries no wonder there may me many choppers in sky of our honourable MPssssssssss.

Why make a HUE & CRY now for an age old practice. Foot path eateries are by the thousands. Each day they keep adding up. Nothing is going to change. As usual, the issue will die its own death.

    Wow!another avenue to bribery.
MCC Health Department don't even care for complaints submitted. Road side food vendors, such as push cart and mobile canteens sell filthy food, without washing their hands after natures'call.
Did MCC ever checks the Cleanliness of Hotel Kitchens and the employees. Many of them don't even wear Shirts, while sweating and cooking food. Where does this sweat falls? Another ingredient for food or what?
MCC Health department don't even care to check Tankers that deliver Water to Hotels and Apartment Complexes for drinking, including the City Malls.

Dear Citizens, please check the surrounding of Wells that supply your drinking water. For instants, Raw Sewer was flowing near Kadri Kambla and the drinking water supply well is within few feet of open gutter. Another instant, look at water tankers pumping water on highway between Nanthoor Junction and Kankanady Pumpwell. Look at the area near to the wells. All kind of waste is thrown there, from building material to food waste. Ground is saturated with rain water and enters these wells and Public drinks it.

The question is: Is MCC checks the quality of Water and cleanliness of these tankers. Even after I have made the suggestions to Health Officer, nothing is done. Now they are jumping on new project of testing Fruits. What about the Chicken meat kept in open in Stalls. Bacteria grows faster in Chicken meat which is not refrigerated.

Another Mint in action at MCC.

Food adulteration is serious matter and health hazard. MCC has woken up belatedly. MMC should come out with multi-pronged stetegy to combate this manace. It may also introduce a scheme to reward general public who identefy culprits. MCC should put an end to this menace with iron hand and then only public could heave sigh of relief.
