P A Nazareth's Book on Gandhi to be Released in Mangalore

Mangalore, Sep 4: The third edition of ‘Gandhi’s Outstanding Leadership’, a book by renowned author Pascal Alan Nazareth will be released in the city at a programme jointly organized by Catholic Association of South Kanara (CASK), Rachana and the Sarvodaya International Trust at St Aloysius High School Hall on Tuesday September 7.

The welcome address will be delivered by Dr Melwin Pinto, head master, St Aloysius High School. A brief introduction to the author will be given by Justice Michael Saldanha, president, CASK. Chevalier Clarence Pais will release the book.

Dr Urmila Shetty, Ashish B and Patsy Lobo will read extracts from the book. A discussion and question- answer session with response form the author Nazareth will also be held. Fr Joseph Rodrigues, rector, St Aloysius College and Dr N Ismail, secretary, Mahatma Gandhi Peace Foundation will be present on the occasion.

About the author 

Pascal Alan Nazareth pursued his early education at St Aloysius High School, here. He obtained a master’s degree in economics from Madras University and joined the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) in May 1959 and retired in May 1994.

During his 35 years o service in IFS, he served with distinction in India’s diplomatic and consular missions in many countries. He has been the high commissioner of India to Ghana and ambassador to Egypt, Mexico, Liberia and other countries.

Since his retirement in 1994, Nazareth has been a guest lecturer at the National Institute of Advanced Studies and the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore and the National Defence College, New Delhi. He has also delivered lectures at several foreign universities including Yale, Columbus, Stonybrook, UC Berkeley, Hawaii and Stanford in USA and universities in Indonesia, the Philippines and West Indies.

Nazareth is a founder and managing trustee of Sarvodaya International Trust which is dedicated to promoting Gandhian values of truth, peace, non-violence, communal harmony and humanitarian service.

In 2007, he was the recipient of the prestigious ‘U Thant Peace Award’ for his life-time of dedication and world service in promoting Gandhian ideals’. The previous recipients of the award include Mother Theresa, Pope John Paul-II, Dalai Lama, Nelson Mandela, Michael Gorbachev and Bishop Desmond Tutu.

About the Book

The first edition of Nazareth’s book ‘Gandhi’s Outstanding Leadership’ was published in 2006 and the second edition in 2007. The third edition was recently released in New Delhi and Bangalore.

    It's heartening to hear your work on "Gandhi's Outstanding Leadership" is seeing its third edition. People around the world do respect Mahatma's leadership and express their wonder in his accomplishments for India and the entire humanity. Gandhiji's inspirations came from his own personal experiences and the depth of his understanding of the human sufferings when persecuted. It is important for us to follow his example to make our world a better place for all.
