Riyadh: Health status manipulation racket – Saudi anti-corruption body arrests many

Riyadh, Jul 2: Anti-corruption authority of the kingdom said that it has got several people arrested on the accusation of getting involved in illegal manipulation of health status records for money.

Crimes of bribery, forgery and money laundering are slapped against the accused individuals and investigation is underway as per the information given by Nazaha, the oversight and anti-corruption authority of the kingdom.

The spread of the virus and vaccination status throughout the kingdom is monitored by the Covid tracking system that the authority use. Nazaha said that the accused are Saudi nationals and Arab expatriates. Two of the accused, who were modifying the health statuses against money were working for the health department of the kingdom in the eastern region.

Bank accounts of the accused were used for payment in some cases, while other accused advertised the scheme on social media to attract people.

Nazaha said that the offenders will be dealt with sternly as the consequences of their actions will have a devastatingly negative effect on the efforts made by the authority to combat the pandemic.

Meanwhile, 13 people died of Covid in the kingdom on Thursday July 1 while the number of new infections reported was 1,534. In total 17,955,015 people are vaccinated throughout the country. Out of this, the number of elderly people is 1,352,555.
