Udupi, Sep 6: After a splendid welcome in Mangalore, the Queen’s Baton Relay team of the Commonwealth Games arrived in the town on Monday September 6 at 10.00 am.

The team members were welcomed in a unique manner by Sri Krishna Mutt owned female elephant Subhadre at the entrance arch in Kinnimulky. Deputy commissioner (DC) Hemalata P officially welcomed the team.

The team which began its procession from Kinnimulky traversed through Kavi Muddana Marg, town’s main bus stand, Bannanje and ended at Karavali bypass road to set out for its next journey towards Karwar in Uttar Karnataka.

The district’s veteran athletes including Asian Games two-time participant Babu Shetty, National Games participant Uday Kumar Shetty, Apsara Rohith Kumar Kateel, Padmanabha Bandi, Arunakala, Sandra D’Souza and Anita Tantri among others joined the relay.

president Gladys D’Almeida, deputy SP Jayant Shetty, town councillor Kiran Kumar, zilla
panchayat chief executive officer Rajashekar including thousands of students from all over the district
