Jul 4: DK reports 154 new cases and 8 deaths; Udupi single-day tally drops to 28

Mangaluru/Udupi, Jul 4: Dakshina Kannada on Sunday July 4 reported 154 new coronavirus cases, one of the lowest single-day numbers in recent months, and eight deaths, while Udupi's new cases dropped to 28, with two deaths.

As per the Dakshina Kannada district health bulletin, a total of 10,77,441 samples have been tested so far, out of which 9,83,634 have turned out to be negative.

The total number of positive cases in the district has risen to 93,807, out of which 3,419 are currently active.

As many as 497 patients were discharged from hospitals on Sunday, taking the total number of recoveries to 89,145.

The district recorded eight deaths due to coronavirus on Sunday. The death toll in the district so far stands at 1243, out of which two are non-Covid deaths.

The positivity rate in the district has come down to 1.74%, a significant decline from over 5 percent that was seen a couple weeks ago.

The district administration has urged people to strictly continue maintaining social distance in public places and wear masks when stepping out of the house. Anyone not wearing a mask would be fined by the authority.

So far, the district administration has collected Rs 95,23,517 as fine in 78,105 incidents of mask violation.


Udupi

As per the district health bulletin, as many as 6,93,237 samples have been tested so far.

A total of 28 new cases were reported on Sunday, taking the total number of cases to 66,805, out of which 821 are currently active.

A total of 130 patients were discharged from hospitals on Sunday, taking the total number of recoveries to 65,587.

Out of 28 new patients, 24 are in home isolation while 4 are in Covid-designated hospitals.

Among the 28, as many as 10 are asymptomatic.

While Udupi and Kundapur taluks each reported 10 of the 28 cases, Karkala recorded 8.

Coronavirus has claimed 397 lives in the district so far, including two on Sunday. The persons who died on Sunday were elderly men from Udupi and Kundapur.

So far, 4,29,095 people have received the first dose of vaccination, while 129,075 have received the second dose.

A total of 35 cases of mucormycosis (black fungus) have been reported in the district so far, out of which, eight are currently active.
