Mangalore, Sep 8: Lokayukta officials arrested S D Basavaraj, an employment officer at the Human Resource Development Centre (HRDC) of the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC), at his office on Wednesday September 8.

Balaram, a resident from Surathkal, lodged a complaint against the official for demanding a bribe of Rs 6,000 for forwarding his job application to MRPL.

Muneer Katipalla, district president, DYFI, asked Balaram to lodge a complaint with the Lokayukta. The Lokayukta officials gave him a voice recorder and asked him to pay Rs 1,000 on Tuesday September 7, and when he did, Basavaraj demanded payment of the remaining amount the next day.

Balaram recorded the entire conversation and the following day, he went to the office to pay Rs 4,000 given by inspector Uday Nayak. As Basavaraj received the cash, Lokayukta officials raided the office and he was produced in court later.

Mangalore Sadanada Vernekar, deputy superintendent, Lokayukta, also participated in the raid.

This man Basavaraj has Godly name but devilish attitude. Like all those fellows who work in all our public sector organizations, absolutely possess no moral ethics. They are in public service to loot public's money...starting from CM to everyone in public office including all cops all corrupt.

Recently during my visit to Mlore I observed that City Corporation staff refusing to accept any bribe from visitors who were trying to offer something. It was indeed a good sign. I got my job done too without much hassles and without giving anything in return. Good work by Lokayukta. Corrupt employees should be punished swiftly. Daiji should follw up this story and readers what happens to this employee in due action course.

He will be back either promoted or demoted. He will continue to be more corrupt unless they are dismissed from service, ostercised from public life and all benefits completely stop. The punishment should be harsh and severe.
