With TN govt on Mekedatu dam issue, will control media in six months: Annamalai

Chennai, Jul 16 (IANS): BJP's new Tamil Nadu (TN) state chief, K. Annamalai said that the state unit will stand by the state government on the Mekedatu dam issue. In addition, he has raked up a controversy by stating that the party would control the media in the state in six months' time.

The former IPS officer, who joined the BJP recently and is set to replace L. Murugan as Tamil Nadu BJP chief, was addressing a public meeting at Trichy on Thursday enroute Chennai where he will assume office as the party's state unit president on Friday.

"The Tamil Nadu state unit of the BJP will stand with the people of the state in the best interests of the state even though Karnataka is ruled by the BJP," he said.

Stressing that Tamil Nadu should get its share of Cauvery water as stipulated by the Supreme Court, he also said that all concerned should sit together and resolve the issue.

Annamalai said that two senior leaders of the state BJP are part of the all-party delegation led by Tamil Nadu Water Resources Minister, S. Duraimurugan to meet Union Jal Shakhi Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat on the Mekedatu dam issue.

He further said that the media in Tamil Nadu has been criticising the BJP unnecessarily and the party would control the media in six months' time.

Amid applause from party cadres, the newly-appointed state unit chief said that his predecessor Murugan is now the Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting and the media in the state would be soon under the control of the party.

He said the media has been attacking the BJP in the state continuously, without any substance.

The former IPS officer was appointed as the BJP state unit President after incumbent L. Murugan was inducted in the Narendra Modi ministry as Minister of State in the recent reshuffle.

    Height of hypocrisy in most comments.. shouldn't educated join politics. This guy atleast srved for some tenure and brough criminal.elements in line. He headed criime branch in bllore in Congress jds rule. compare Arvind kejriwal who went on leave without even joining duty! People from all walks shud join politics and take active part. As he is new!! He may not know to make "politically" correct statement but all parties try to get publicity ofcourse.i Just couldn't bear badmouthing honest officers.

    Annamalai what do you mean by "CONTROL MEDIA IN SIX MONTHS??? Where does your values as ex IPS officer??? Freedom of speech and expression is guaranteed in the Constitution of India and why BJP Government has to CONTROL??? Media exposing the irregularities of BJP... You have been bought by BJP as you were against the BJP while you were an IPS Officer!!! Suddenly now what tempted you to join BJP??? MONEY POWER!!!

    Sir, you loosing it and you loosing your personality too, you shouldn’t be in that place. There is nothing left for you to control the media, media is well controlled by your master and his chelas even before he won the election in 2014. Don’t forget, independent media is fourth estate of the democracy. You better off in non political movement, Indian politics is not suits your personality.
