Muscat: MCCP Annual Dance Contest Enthrals with Magnificent Show

Muscat, Sep 12: Fantastic performance by the children and adults of Mangalorean community here, enthusiastic and cheerful audience and near perfect arrangements by the Executive Committee of the
Mangalorean Catholic Center of the Parish (MCCP, Sts Peter and Paul Church – Ruwi) were the highlights of the 2010 – 2011 series Annual Dance Competition titled, “Naach Nara Naach Naari” organized by MCCP, Ruwi here.


The annual dance competition was held at the main parish hall of Sts Peter and Paul Church on Friday September 10. The platform designed by MCCP team truly offers great opportunities to many budding artistes of the community. Monica Dantis, the very first lady president in the history of MCCP, along with her efficient team, showed tremendous leadership qualities and abilities to organize a successful event.


The anchor of the first part of the competition was Lancy Lobo, vice-president, Cultural, Spiritual and Community Services Committee and talented actor. Fr Canute Barboza, visiting priest from Mangalore
diocese, conducted the prayers seeking heavenly guidance to the participants.

Monica Dantis welcomed the gathering. Choreographer Sonia D'Souza was the chief guest of the competition along with Fr Canute Barboza and Monica Dantis. Sonia also inaugurated the competition.

Deepak D'Souza, current cultural secretary of MCCP introduced the distinguished judges Babu Joseph, Prithi Gurbani and Nitish Sharma to the audience.

Babu Joseph is a post graduate diploma holder in Bharatanatyam with additional courses in  Mohiniyattam, Kuchipuddi, folk dance and classical music. He has 18 years of teaching experience in many reputed institutions in India and abroad. He has credit of composing and choreographing many
presentations for youth festivals and star musical nites in Oman.

Prithi Gurbani is the winner of many dance awards while in school and college with background of dance instructor and planner for various competitions. She has won the best dancer and best gharba girl awards
in the past.

Nitish Sharma is a choreographer of various non-classical dance forms including cinematic, hip hop and contemporary. He is the winner of dance mania competition in 2007 and also second runner-up in folk
dance competition conducted by Gujarati wing in 2008.

The judges were honored by Simon D'Souza, Reena Lobo and Nancy Vaz of the MCCP Executive committee. Reena Lobo presented the rules of the competition.

Fr Peter Machado also visited the competition and shared his thoughts with the participants. Jacintha Serrao proposed the vote of thanks. Judges of the competition were given mementos by Monica Dantis.

At the end of the competition winners were given trophies and certificates. All the participants also received merit certificate of participation. The main sponsor of the event was Michael Pinto of
Ideal Tailors. The sponsors were Melwin Pereira, Nirmala Goveas, Jessie Periera, Enhance, Assarain Food Products, Sweets of Oman and Oman Refreshments and Raphael Quadros – Zahrat Al Rowdha Trading LLC
