Udupi, Jul 20: The members of the National Students Union of India (NSUI), here, staged a protest at Tiger Circle, Manipal, here, on Tuesday July 20 against the state government demanding fulfilment of their various demands.

Former member of Mangaluru Academic Council, Amrith Shenoy addressing the protestors said, "During this Covid pandemic time, colleges were shut down from March and online classes were conducted. Some students do not have network connectivity. People are under stress due to unemployment. Amidst this, the private bus association increased the bus fare by 25%. Let the government release government buses to the road. Private educational institutions are demanding parents to pay fees without conducting regular classes. In this difficult time, who has that much accumulation of money to pay? If students are deprived of education, who will be responsible?

"The government should cancel the examination for diploma, degree and engineering students instead of postponing it. This protest should not stop here only. The students' voice should reach the state government. People of Udupi want a complete Government Medical College and not under PP model."

District president of NSUI, Sourabh Ballal, demanded to waive off fees for students who lost the head of their family during this period. He also urged to cancel the examination for students who are answering offline exams. "Let public transport give passes to students.

"The government is the reason for raising a second wave in the state, because at that time, the government prioritized elections rather than health. After Covid, the entire education system collapsed and none of the students received quality education."

A copy of the memorandum was handed over by the NSUI members to the additional DC Sadashiv Prabhu at the DC office Manipal.

Sayyad Farukh, Thouseef, Masood Affakh, Akram, Christan, Fayal, Sai Kiran, Saurabh Ballal, president, NSUI Udupi, Zameer, vice-president, and others were present.
