Bantwal, July 20: Residents who vacated their land for B C Road–Punjalkatte highway development erected fences around the land vacated by them alleging that they have not been paid compensation and staged protests at Helegetu, Navoor here.

The government department has not paid any compensation to the villagers who lost their land.

“National highway department assistant executive engineer Krishna Kumar has held discussions with the protesters. We only have received a letter mentioning the compensation and not the compensation. The land acquisition officers should be called to the spot within a month to pay the compensation,” urged the affected farmers.

The protests were called off after the officials assured of paying the compensation. Several victims who lost their land took part in the protests under the leadership of Sadanamsa Navoor.
