Mangalore, Sep 16: There is no shortcut to success other than hard work and Joachim Menezes, a young and enterprising self-made entrepreneur would vouch for it ad infinitum. At 37, Joe as he is popularly known to friends and acquaintances, has achieved remarkable success beyond his wildest dreams only by the dint of his hard work, determination and with a never say die spirit. Joe who went to Dubai 12 years ago in search of greener pastures gained valuable work experience and graduated to start his own business in the Security and Communication field in 2005 with his first venture Wavelink LLC. Wavelink deals with diverse products such as office automation, design and implementation of communication infrastructure for voice date and CCTV surveillance including security systems related products.
This was soon followed by Zetek Communications LLC and within a short period of time these companies succeeded in taking a strong foothold in Dubai with two branches each.
Joe, however, always nurtured an ambition of doing something in his own native place and this long cherished desire is now getting fulfilled as he is all set to open his showroom and office - Felix Security Systems in Mangalore, which is slated for inauguration on September 19, 2010. First citizen of Mangalore Mayor Rajani Dugganna will inaugurate the showroom and Commissioner of Police, Mangalore Seemanth Kumar Singh will inaugurate the office. The new showroom cum office will be blessed by Rev Fr Godfrey Saldanha, Parish Priest of Neermarga and Rev Fr Peter Noronha, Parish Priest of St Sebastian Church, Bendoor. Nalin Kumar Kateel, Member of Parliament, will be the chief guest on the occasion.
FELIX Security Systems deals with products like CCTV Surveillance Equipments, Door Access Control Systems, Audio-Video intercom systems, Key Telephone PABX Systems, Hotel Security Solution and Audio Visual solutions. Their activities encompass design, supply, installation, testing, commissioning, training and maintenance. Joe says that company’s main thrust is on understanding the needs of the customers and developing an optimum solution to their needs in collaborating with him. It also focuses on after-sales service back up and installation support.
On starting his venture in Mangalore Joe says “during my visit to Bangalore I realized there is a huge demand for surveillance and security products and when I discussed about the scope with a people who have lot of experience in the business field I got tremendous support and encouragement from them. I wanted to provide service at my native place and serve the society by beefing up security, surveillance and communication systems and create a safe environment through proper security. Our product is aimed at companies, showrooms, banks, institutions, hospitals, apartments and villas, as the system can record the happenings and provide them to the authorities as and when need arises”. FELIX Surveillance system can provide back up recording date of up to 90 days which can be upgraded to 180 days if required.
Armed with a clear vision and with oodles of determination Joe has plans to expand his business empire in South India in the next five years. “We are going to develop a channel of dealership network and in the first year we have plans to get rooted in Karnataka and then establish our branches in South India in the next five years”, he asserts. He is aware of the hard work he has to put in to make that vital foray in the Indian market but Joe is prepared for it. Though he hastens to add that some people advised him against opening the venture saying it is a risky business that too at a young age Joe has gone ahead with a steely determination. He contends: “It is said there is nothing impossible to talk. In addition to that we must believe there is nothing impossible to a man because god created man unconditionally, of his own. God made man just like him. If we believe in him we can certainly do it”. Further he believes in the dictum “failure is the stepping stone to success” and he is all set to take the challenge ahead.
While Joe’s success reads like a fairy tale it is not so. Behind that malleable exterior there is a strong-minded personality who has seen the darker side of life hailing from a very poor family from Loretto, Bantwal.
Just a Diploma holder when he landed up in Dubai 12 years ago in search of a job he yielded to his burning desire to continue his studies and obtain a degree in Information Technology, which he did by attending night college coping with the demands of his job during the day. For four years he toiled relentlessly and invested his hard earned money on education which proved to be the right investment earning him rich dividend by altering the entire route of his life. While dealing distributing surveillance products of branded companies he realized the potential of developing his own products in surveillance and security which paved the way for starting “FELIX” brand of security systems named after his late father.
The product is named after his father and Joe remembers that when his father was in the death bed in 1994, Joe just in his was with his father in those dying moments and he had promised his father that he will bring honour to his name. “I really do not know by what means or in what sense I promised him at that moment. However, I am happy that I am able to keep that promise given to my father”, Joe recalls.
The brand “FELIX” is developed on principles of criteria, innovation, integrity and dependability, which has enabled his companies to cross the obstacles of geographical boundaries. Today FELIX Security systems are manufactured in Korea and Taiwan and are marketed in the Middle East and African countries amply characterizing the success achieved by Joe and his dedicated team of professionals who work with the same dynamism and meticulousness of their boss. The company is soon going to open its branch in Quatar by May next year.
