Congress Padyatra Ineffective, says BJP

Bangalore, Sep 17 (PTI): The ruling BJP in Karnataka on Thursday said Congress' defeat in the by-elections to Gulbarga South and Kadur Assembly constituencies showed that its Bellary padayatra on mining issue was ''ineffective''.

''The Congress lost in both which shows that the padyatra has been ineffective. They failed to retain even their seat in Kadur which clearly indicates that people want to vote for improvement and have done so,'' Home Minister V S Acharya told PTI here.

Reacting to BJP's defeat in Gulbarga South Acharya said, "We had hoped to win both the seats but the defeat in Gulbarga South was unexpected." He attributed the victory of JDS candidate Aruna Patil to "sympathy wave".

In the bypolls held on September 13, BJP's Y C Vishwanath wrested the Kadur seat but failed to retain Gulbarga South where Patil defeated Congress's Ajay Singh, son of former Chief Minister Dharam Singh.

The Congress had last month undertaken a 302-km padayatra from Bangalore to Bellary on the issue of illegal mining.

State unit BJP President K S Eshwarappa expressed satisfaction over the results. The outcome had shown the Congress cannot continue to "divide" people in the name of caste, he said referring to the party's defeat in Kadur.

In Gulbarga South, the electorate have rejected "dynastic politics" by dumping Congress nominee Ajay Singh, he said.

He defended the BJP's decision to deny ticket to Aruna, wife of late BJP MLA Chandrasekhara Patil Revoor, standing for elections on a JDS ticket, saying she was fielded due to "indiscipline".

He sought to downplay victory of JDS in Gulbarga by ascribing it to the sympathy factor. The poll verdict was also against the leadership of Siddaramaiah, Dharam Singh and Union Labour Minister Mallikajun Kharge, he claimed.

He said Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa planned to expand his ministry within a month.

As some readers have suggested that BJP is winning because of 'Hindutva' card. There is nothing wrong in it. After all 'Hindutva' is the religion of the majority. BJP is the only party trying sincerely to bring about positive changes in Karnataka as well rest of India.

Congress padayatra is a thumping success and millions have received the real message what are the wrong doings of the present Government at an killer instinct. That is, to stay in power after robbing the MLA's of the other parties. One cannot equate padayatra to the present election. To downplay the padayatra BJP has utilised all options and fire power available and won only one seat. Let our HM take answer from his conscience and speak the truth who really is the winner.

It is good for any leader or political party to go out to the people and understand their views and problems. The padayatras provide that outreach. The Congress padayatra has made the JD(S) and BJP launch their padayatras. This is a clear indication of its success. The chief minister has stopped the export of iron ore. I don’t think he would have done that if Congress had not set out on a padayatra

60 years of hardwork, dedication and aggressiveness of the Cong men gone in vain just because of the fact that there is lack of leaders in the party. Losing two seats and comparing it with padayatra doesn't make any sense dear Doctor transformed politician. You don't know how to deliver a political statement also. Why don't you analyze how you won one seat?.

I dont know y these results r analyzed thru the 'padayatra' glass..congress men never did all that hard work just for the sake of 2 seats!!,its BJP's ever hunger for power/money @any cost policy that gave'em kadoor.congress survived toughest times for over a century..BJP is only a kid in front of mighty congress.all biggest n best leaders are congress men.mr.acharya who's a total failure in his ministry must know the reality.

Dear Statee BJP...High time to clean your cabinet & induct some able candidates like Halaadi Srinivas Shetty, Yogesh Bhat etc who have won the seats consistantly because of their performance. Kindly dont go for relatives and kins of exisitng candidates unless they are performing.BJP proved wise by not picking late Mr Revoor's wife even though you have lost it & going to a new candidate. Mr HDK dint pick Mr Revoors wife as a right candidate but just that she would bring votes on compassnate grounds. This shows JDS hunder for a win by any means and not by performance. I saw the lady's speech & i can only expect her to perform like our Honerable puppet prsident. Al she did thruoght the campagn and after the win was shed tears and tears and tears.
And for congress and its bunchfull votebank supportors in the state, dont worry much, they are already digging their own grave. JDS turns out to be more effective opposition than congress with their pro farmer policies. Kindly take care of the farmers of the state as they are the real future. Down the line only food will staisfy your hunger not technology. People have shown support for you in both constituency even after Congress Dramayatra padayatra or shavayatra. You have another 2 years to perform and wipe out congress to mere 25 seats in future. all the best. BJP shall not bother about these critics, for these people will never supoort BJP even if they do good work. Yesterday no one had dare to comment on By poll results page :)

I agree with Vincy Shamboor , it is not the developements of BJP (!!!!) but Hindutva which won here. In Karnataka now a days politics got its worst phase under BJP. It is just bcz our leader got influence of other external outfits and he became puffet in their hands. May be this is the time for yeddi to think again abt his leadership instead running behind cow slaughter bill (i mean silly things)... wake up yeddi , clean dirt from ur party and be a examplery CM. Good luck

Many BJP folks are back to life again. Probably, they were helping bjp icons, like, halappa, sampanghi,
    reddy's, ramchandra gowda etc. etc.
some of the soldiers prevserving their own brand of hindutva.

Common man is never concerned on wins/losses of party. They are concerned about peace, welfare and development, which none of the parties are bothered.

If hindutva card had worked then BJP should have been ruling the centre not the puppet MMS. On the same yardstick BJP too got about 35% votes at centre but lost the elections due to margins working in favour of congress. BJP has won in karnataka due to excellent overall development in karnataka under Shriman Yediyurappaji. Write sensibly and logically.

hi, ISMAIL K PERINJE, PERINJE/YANBU-KSA, Whole world had seen your congress
    's useless padayatra.

All your leaders are jobless & wanted some entertainemt for time pass.

Siddu got an idea of dancing with motamma & started useless padayatra.

due to 320 km padayatra congress lost about 32000 valid votes . voters clearly understand that congress is fit for dance , moju, masti.

But unfortunately educated people like you still follow congress madly.

    jai ho BJP.

Mr Acharya pin pointing about dynastic politics while BJP have so many cases - CM & son,Udasi & son,Reddy & Family(3-4 MLAs/MP in one family, Chenigappa & son,(but Chennigappa defeated in last by election)Naidu & son, (Naidu's son could be next BBMP Mayor)Umesh Katthi & Brother and the list not ending.....

In Kadur also symphathi factor for Dr Viswanath, BJP MLA worked out because last two times he was defeated and people may considered this time around.

CM took Gulburga south seat as pristage issue and docked for 9 days for canvassing, mobalised all resources including official machinaries to clip Revoor family which showed his low level of politics of hate.

There is a clear message for Congress and BJP as well to mend their functioning otherwise the wise electrorate of Karnataka will teach lesson in future.

Dear Home Minister,It is not the party or the developments that make you win.its the Hindutva card that works, majority people are Hindu and they just vote for a Hindu dominated party. The people do not who and where is the developments and they do not know who smuggled the iron ore and illegal export of iron ore. They only know it is BJP ruling and BJP is a party of Hindu's.These padyatra will help congress in future elections. Do not think that all voted the BJP candidate.ther are 40% of voters who voted the congress also. The only margin voters might be convinced by your influence by using state machinary because you are in power.

It is an open secret that Money from the Bellary Loot was used to fund this election. Votes were bought and booze was overflowing. What can you expect from such a victory? Today Karnataka is reeling with poor or (NO) roads, lack of electricity and no proper drinking water. Once upon a time Karnataka was among the leading states of the country but now I regret to tell you Mr. Acharya even UP, Bihar, Rajastan and Orissa are way ahead of us. Anyways all the best Mr. Acharya though we all know that you are the most useless Home Minister Karnataka has ever seen. One word of advice, kindly concentrate on Development and stop playing around with religion.
