Mangaluru: Railway passengers without negative Covid reports kept under temporary quarantine

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Aug 3: As the number of coronavirus positive cases in Dakshina Kannada district has been increasing rapidly, a close vigil is being kept on the passengers arriving into the district by trains from Kerala and Maharashtra. On Monday August 2, 51 passengers who were not in possession of Covid negative reports were kept in temporary quarantine at the townhall here.

The throat swabs of these passengers were collected for RT-PCR tests. As this happened at night, women passengers were permitted to go to their homes in the light of safety concerns. They have been instructed to be under quarantine till the reports are received.

The administration has decided to keep the male passengers in the townhall till the receipt of the reports. Women are allowed to proceed to their home and quarantine themselves till results come as it was night time. Those passengers who test negative for coronavirus will be sent home while those with positive reports will be shifted to Covid care centres. This procedure will be followed at all railway stations in the coming days, said deputy commissioner of police, Hariram Shankar.

This is a caution to the concerned authorities : most of the trains arriving at Mangalore Central stops at a signal about one kilometer away from the station for entry clearance. During this halt so many passengers get down from the train and simply enter the city. What about the screening , testing or quarantine of these infiltrators ? I am sure most of them are ticket less and without and RT- PCR report. I am sure the concerned authorities are aware of this.

Also, all hostels, malls, colleges, govt. offices, police dept, should do their RC PCR test every month and submit the report to concerned officials. Also inter district transport should follow covid protocol. Only people got. Vaccine should allow to travel by public transport, who are above 18 years of age.

As far as covid is concerned, this arrangement (allowing ladies to self-isolate at homes and isolate men in a specific spot) is a big JOKE. (I am not against women safety)
