Mangaluru, Aug 5: A boat that was going for fishing in deep sea waters, off the coast of Ullal, capsized as it collided against a shipwreck. One person went missing while nine were rescued by a boat that was fishing nearby.

The incident took place around 12 noon on Thursday August 5. There were 10 men on the boat. As tragedy struck, 9 men were rescued by a boat which was nearby. Search is on for the missing fisherman.

The loss suffered in the incident is said to be Rs 1.30 crore. The barge ship that had sunk earlier in the sea is not fished out. There is no marking around the area also. This submerged ship is causing dangers to other fishing boats and ships passing by.

    It is really sad to know that the barge ship which got sunk sometime earlier was not removed/salvaged till now causing enormous danger and loss of life and equipment. I sincerely trust immediate action will be taken to remove/salvage it without further delay to keep the area safe for fisher folks.

    BJP already using life jackets , like cement thievs, egg thievs , but Karnataka government can make it compulsory for fishermen' who venture into sea. Feeling very sad for the fisherman who lost his life.
