Bengaluru, Aug 10: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee President D K Shivakumar attacked the State Government for playing with the lives of the people and not bothering to help the farmers and other sections of people seriously affected by the Covid Second Wave.
Speaking to reporters, the State Congress Chief said the State Government was least bothered about the plight of farmers suffering due to lack of remunerative prices for their produce and have been dumping truckloads of tomatoes and other vegetables on the streets due to sharp fall in prices even as the common people are unable to buy essential things due to inflation.
“We are watching the situation and doing our best to help the people and farmers,’’ he said pointing out that the party was not interested in criticising the government unnecessarily as the new Chief Minister and his council of ministers have just assumed office.
Shivakumar noted that the Chief Minister has directed all ministers and MLAs to visit the districts and their constituencies. But what is important to note is the steps taken by the government to help the farmers and vegetable growers as well as all sections of people depending on their traditional professions to eke out a living. The party will wait to see what the new government does to help the affected people, he said.
The KPCC chief referred to the statement made by former minister Jagadish Shettar on the need to convene a special session of the legislature to discuss the problems of north Karnataka and wondered if the new Chief Minister, who hails from the same region, will convene the session.
He declined to comment on his experiences with Congress leader Zameer Khan, who was subjected to raids by IT and ED on his residence and offices, and pointed out that he had already spoke about the IT and ED raids.
“I don’t want to speak on other personal issues or the controversy over former Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy’s remarks about Zameer Khan in public,’’ he said and made it clear that they should clarify things.
The KPCC Chief later participated in the distribution of food kits to the poor in Rajajinagar.
KPCC Working President Saleem Ahmed, Former BBMP Mayor Padmavathi, DCC Presidnent Shekhar, Block Congress President Venkatesh and others participated.
