Mangalore: Mumbai’s ‘Natural Ice Cream’ Ventures into Creator’s Home District

Mangalore, Sep 22: The ‘Natural Ice Cream’ has opened its 80th outlet in Inland Monarch complex, near C V Nayak Hall, Kadri Road in the city on Wednesday September 22. 

The ‘Natural Ice Cream’ brand created by Raghunandan Kamath, entrepreneur of Puttur origin in Mumbai, has become a household name in Mumbai and elsewhere in the country because of the unique quality and taste of the ice creams created by the house out of fruits during the 26 year-period since its inception. The 'Natural' brand of ice creams, which have bagged five prestigious awards, has long continued to be the top brand ice cream in Mumbai. These ice creams are sure to tickle the taste buds of Mangaloreans.

Raghunandan Kamath, who went to Mumbai to try his luck about 40 years ago, became a proud son of Tulunadu and Kannadigas, by setting up Natural Ice Cream in the commercial capital of the country and then expanding it to various parts of the country. Kamath, the youngest of eight children of Srinivas Kamath and Shanta Bai alias Anasuya from Puttur, was inspired by the taste of the eatables prepared by his mother, while creating his own natural ice creams.

Kamath, after studying till seventh standard in his native place, went to Mumbai. He continued his education in NKES educational institute there. He later joined Gokul Ice Cream run by his brother, G S Kamath, to eke out a living. After acquiring in-depth knowledge in ice cream making, he ventured on his own, and started producing ‘Natural Ice Creams’ by giving wings to his dreams. Within a short period, he became immensely popular through his products. Kamath says, hygiene, purity, uniqueness and freshness, have ensured that the ice creams created by him have always stood test of time and earned the patronage of the people. Kamath hopes that the people of his home district will own his products and extend the same warmth and love the people of other parts of the country have showered on his products.

Families of Big B - Amitabh Bachchan, Sachin Tendulkar, a number of Bollywood actors and actresses, political leaders, dress designers and various other top-notch personalities have been big fans of ‘Natural’ brand of ice creams. Besides having 50 branches in Mumbai alone, the brand has branches in cities like Pune, Nasik, Bangalore, Kolhapur, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Sangli, Shirdi and other places. Ice creams made from chunks of jack fruit, vanilla, tender coconut, musk melon, and custard apple created by Kamath have been identified as trend setters in the ice cream industry.
