Bangalore: Lokayukta Unearths Rs 107 Crore Fraud in KIADB

Bangalore, Sep 22 (PTI): A major racket involving crores of rupees in payment of compensation to lands acquired by Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) for industrial projects has been busted, Lokayukta Santosh Hegde said today.

Investigations after a raid against five KIADB officials "shockingly" led to the unearthing of payment of compensation to private parties by the Board even for government land it acquired and one of the beneficiaries of the largesse was the son of a "powerful" state politician, he said here.

"We had received many complaints about wrong distribution of government land acquisition money in Bagalur and when we looked into it we found that a fraud of over Rs 107 crore had been committed. Compensation for government land which had been acquired was found to have been paid to private persons, including a politician's son," Hegde told PTI.

Lokayukta raided the premises of five KIADB officers and a private individual, and seized official documents from the individual's house which was unauthorised, he said. "We also seized cash of Rs seven lakh, Rs 4.5 lakh and Rs three lakh from the houses of three of the five officers," he added.

We must admire the initiatives taken by the Lokayuktha in pinning the corrupt officials. But it is the duty of lokayuktha to keep the people d about the actions taken after the enquiry. In the past episodes where Lokayuktha had chargesheeted the culrpits on their unaccounted wealth acrued,no further actions were heard.Mr.Santhosh Hegde leading such an honourable position must initiate an effective movement with the government as to how many of them really were punished & were recovered the wealth from .Most of them all these actions must have a time limit with the judiciary to conclude their judgement like maximum 3-6months.

Dear Mr. Richard, Shirva / Sharjah,

My advice to you to be little careful while giving your expert opinion on others comments. Now my comment on this article does not talk about any party or religion at all. Some people get impressed with sensible comments and some others like you get impressed when the comments are made to their taste. Because you like some pessimistic views expressed here it does not mean that it is the right view.

I am optimist by nature and hence my views may be always different from the views you are looking for.

    Good luck Mr. Richard!

KIADB is the epicentre of corruption. In fact KIAD Act should be either reppealed or should have major amendment as it can acquire any lands irrespective of whether it is forest or agricultural and it can take possession without paying compensation. Officials openly ask for commission while paying the compensation. They are paying Rs 51000 per acre in Yellur for Nagarjuan as against the notification for 5 lakhs.Obviously through KIADB politicians are being fed.

Dear Mr. Santosh Hegde, your actions against these corrupt officials is commendable.

We hope that in the similar fashion you will be able to nail Reddy brothers who looted the state’s wealth of thousands of crores of Rupees by their illegal mining.

    Dear Santhosh Hegde,

You have made many government servants and politicians life miserable just as they have made the life of Indian citizens or Kannadigas life miserable. At the end of the day will you be able to recover the illgoten wealth of these politicians or Govt. Servants. Mark my words you will not. Also you have few months left to complete your term and you will not get an extension. How is the common man going to fight corruption. The rule of Indian leaders since 1975 is worse than British Rule. There will be 99% poverty in this country in another 10 to 15 years to come by leaving just 1 million people rich out of 1.13 billion. The 1 million rich people will comprise of Political Leaders, Government Servants, Business leaders and their family. The remaining 99% will have to be provided with BPL Cards. Marks it, my words will come true in another 10 to 15 years. I will feel sorry for the next generation.
