Kasargod: Revenue Dept Seizes 2720 Tonnes of Illegally Stored Sand

Kasargod, Sep 24: In a major haul, the revenue department raided Talapady border area here and seized 2720 tonnes of illegally stored sand worth Rs 17 lac.

The raids were conducted on Thursday September 23 and Friday September 24. On Thursday the team seized 1520 tonnes of sand, following it up with another 1200 tonnes on Friday. At Rs 635 per tonne, the total haul amounted to Rs 17. 14 lac.

The sand was being transported to south Kerala from Netravati and surrounding areas in Karnataka, and stored in various places like Padavu, Kunjattur, Tuminadu and Manjalu.

Deputy tahsildar Damodaran, revenue officer Mohammed Kunhi along with Manjeshwar police were involved in the operation.
