Mangalore: Ayodhya Verdict - Coastal Districts Bracing Up for Fallout

Mangalore, Sep 29: The administrations of Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, and Kasargod districts, with the help of the police department, have begun initiatives to tighten the law and order machinery to ensure that there will not be any unsavoury incidents during the week end. Although instructions relating to location of contingents of different divisions within the police department and prohibitory orders are expected to be issued in Dakshina Kannada district later today, the concerned have taken precautionary measures in view of the expected delivery of verdict in land dispute in Ayodhya on Thursday September 30.

The state government, in the meanwhile, has not declared holiday for banks and government offices on September 30 and October 1. The banks will however, remain closed on September 30 because of half-year ending work, and again on October 2, as holiday has been declared on account of Gandhiji’s birth anniversary.

In Udupi district, the deputy commissioner has banned sale of liquor with effect from 6 am on September 30 to midnight on October 2. The intervening days have been declared as dry days. Public processions, victory processions, observation of black day, protest marches, public meetings, sale and burning of crackers have also been banned during the said period. District superintendent of police (SP), Pravin Madhukar Pawar, has already assigned different duties to three deputy SPs, nine circle inspectors, 28 sub-inspectors, home guards, Karnataka State Reserve Police contingents and District Armed Reserve Police force.
