Bengaluru, Aug 23: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee Chief D K Shivakumar attacked the BJP leader Basanagouda Patil Yatnal and others and termed them ‘mad persons’ for their derogatory remarks against former Congress President Rahul Gandhi.
“These mad people want to be always in the limelight and therefore are making absurd and atrocious comments. They want publicity and also divert public attention from serious issues,’’ he said speaking to reporters near his residence on Monday.
Shivakumar said Yatnal has no right to speak about Rahul Gandhi. “It is evident that BJP leaders do not want people to talk about the price rise, inflation and the problems on the mishandling of the Covid pandemic situation,’’ he said.
He asked the partymen to remind the people about the statements and promises made by the BJP leaders before the election and afterwards.
The KPCC Chief met former Congress minster Vinayakumar Kulkarni and representatives of students from Afghanistan in the City.
Shivakumar said Kulkarni, who has been released on bail in a murder case, is a senior leader and he explained his plight in the jail and outside. He has given details which cannot be shared.
The KPCC Chief emphasised the need to instil confidence among the Afghanistan students in the city and different parts of the State. They are worried about the situation in the country and they need support.
Former JD(S) leader and MLA Madhu Bangarappa, son of former Chief Minister S Bangarappa, who had recently joined the Congress party also called on Shivakumar at his residence and held discussions.
