Mysuru, Aug 25: G T Devegowda, a prominent JD(S) leader, who had defeated former chief minister Siddaramaiah, in Chamundeshwari constituency in the previous election, who has been nursing a grouse against HD Kumaraswamy, finally laid bare his mind by announcing that he would be leaving his party and joining the Congress.
He said that he will be joining the Congress in the presence of Siddaramaiah and D K Shivakumar.
After winning the previous assembly election, Devegowda was unhappy at the party leaders after he was allotted higher education department much against his wishes. After the coalition government crashed, he had maintained distance from his party.
Speaking to the media, he said he has already spoken to Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah and that they had advised him against joining the BJP. "We will sit together soon and talk the details out, as advised by the Congress leaders," he stated.
He said he had received a call from H D Deve Gowda on the day of Varamahalaxmi festival, wishing him well. "He asked me to remain within the JD(S) as I am like his brother. But I sought apology from him. I know about the harsh language some people in that party used against me. I told him I cannot stay back, and sought his blessings," Devegowda stated.
