Vijayapura, Aug 26: BJP legislator representing the city constituency here, Basanagouda Patil Yatnal, urged the government to withdraw the scheme meant for extending financial assistance of up to one lac rupees to Muslim women suffering from major health complications, and introduce a fresh scheme by covering people from all the castes, communities and religions.
Yanal has written to the chief minister as well as the minister for women and child welfare department, expressing his displeasure at the efforts being made by the BJP government to appease the Muslims in this way and by giving them preferential treatment over the others.
"Cancer is a disease that afflicts people from all the poor people irrespective of their castes, creeds, religions etc. Therefore, the government should cover all the poor people holding BPL cards under the said scheme," he demanded.
He asked the government to stop discriminating and extend the benefit of the scheme to every citizen who suffers from cancer instead of restricting it to only Muslims. Otherwise, there will not be any difference between our government and the ones run by other parties, he pointed out in a release.
