Mangalore Sep 30: The Joy of Giving Week, initiated by the Centre for Integrated Learning (CIL’s) student wings, Creating Resources to Empower Society Today (CREST) and Students Action Movement (SAM) has witnessed a tremendous response from people.

“People have come out of their way to join the ‘Joy of Giving’ week,” said the organizers of the programme.

The room at the SDM Law College has been up with loads of items. People have been calling up to drop useful things at the nearest collection centres, they added. The pre-university students of Canara College and high school students have been busy collecting the useful items such as clothes, books, utensils and stationary.

“We still have two days to go till the event ends (Saturday October 2) and it is a pleasant shocker indeed that we have so many who wish to give,” said
Sachitha Nandagopal, executive director of CIL, an organization working in the field of alternative education.

Trishma Pinto, coordinator-projects, CIL said that they have received a large number of dress materials, blankets, winter clothes, utensils along with considerable quantity of books and stationary. She also informed with excitement that they are awaiting three boxes of materials from a well wisher all the way from Chandigarh through an organization called Aadhar. In turn, we would send to Chandigarh sweaters and blankets collected here as the winter sets in up north, she added.

The materials would be sorted out before handing it over to one who is in need. The waste clothes would be given to the Blind Mobility Centre where they prepare foot rugs out of them, the organizers informed.

One may approach CIL in case one knows of any place or people in need.
