Udupi: Decision on Ganesha Chaturthi celebration after experts’ opinion, says minister Sunil Kumar

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (MS)

Udupi, Aug 30: “The public demand to allow celebration of Lord Ganesha Chaturthi festival is correct. But it is the prime duty of the government to give importance to the health of people also. We have to wait for the instructions of union government on this matter. In addition, we have to consider the opinion of experts. Only after that we will give opportunity for celebration. People have to understand this matter and cooperate,” said minister for Energy, Kannada and Culture Sunil Kumar on Monday August 30.

He further said, “Physical classes will soon begin in the district of Udupi also. As the positivity rate was more, schools are not open. Now the number of infected people is getting reduced every day. This is a good development. The positivity rate is 1.4% in the last three days.

“We will start schools soon for students of ninth grade to second PU. The district administration has taken decision in this regard. The classes will begin from September 1. Private education institutions have to carefully monitor the Covid guidelines. Vaccination is compulsory for teachers. The schools have to start following Covid guidelines,” he said.

The decision making in such serious matters should be given to medical experts and not politicians. Politicians tend to look only at pleasing the voters just to keep them happy. After all for them what matters is only votes.

Mr. Minister, let us first celebrate life and if we survive we can have enough religious celebrations next year. Stop appeasing voters at the cost of their lives. No vote bank politics in such matters please!

It is common sense not to organize any religious gatherings during this time. This man is waiting for the decision of the people who said it was okay to have kumbh mela which resulted in the second wave!!

Simple pooja at temples. Pooja at home and grand food preparation and may be distribute to neighbors. That is good enough....it does not always have to involve "Jana Marulo, Jatre Marulo"? Moorthi stapana and the festival of the sorts for several days culminating in immersion of the idol was started by Balagangadhar Tilak and it has its own fervor. That part can be held in abeyance until invisible Chinese invasion is under control.
