Puttur, Aug 30: In a shocking incident which happened at Valalu Bedrody in Bajathur village near Uppinangady on the evening of Monday August 30, three mechanics who were repairing a truck that had got stranded after developing engine problems, were crushed by a pick-up vehicle.
The victims of this incident were Madhu (35), Abdul Rehman (25) and Afzal alias Absan (35) from Bengaluru. The lorry belonging to a private transport operator, which was driven by Asif, had been stationed near Bedrody for the last three days on national highway 75. The concern had sent three mechanics from Bengaluru to repair the truck.
When the trio was repairing the lorry, a pick-up vehicle which came at high speed, went out of the control of its driver and crashed into the three mechanics who were working to repair the lorry. While Madhu and Rehman died on the spot, Afzal who had lost both his legs, breathed his last at the district Wenlock Hospital Mangaluru.
It is learnt that Madhu was the driver of another truck, and had brought the mechanics from Bengaluru for repairing the lorry belonging to the concern for which he too worked. He was helping the mechanics to repair the lorry when the tragic incident happened. Asif, truck driver, was standing a little away at the time and hence survived the ordeal.
