Shivamogga, Aug 31: Currently, one assumes that none of the office bearers or leaders of the BJP would leave the party as it is in power both at the centre and the state. Rarely some leaders come up with the proposal to leave either because of internal differences or personal reasons.
But a leader from here has held his party responsible for inefficient administration, price rise of essentials etc. He said he thought it better to resign before the people start tongue-lashing him. His statement and the resignation letter he tendered have become viral in the social media. The issue has also gained the attention of the political circles.
L Shekhar, Shivamogga district BJP Booth Committee president, has resigned from his position, citing the above reason. The letter of resignation he gave to the party leaders has been widely circulated on social websites. The reasons he has put forth for his resignation have also given rise to a lot of interest.
The BJP leaders had planned to present to him the name board when they visited his house on August 25. L Shekhar, who was the Ashoknagar ward president in Shivamogga, shocked them by his unexpected stand.
His letter charges the BJP of failing to work in favour of the people. He said that it has become difficult for the common people to carry on with life as necessities like petrol, diesel, cooking gas, food grains, electricity etc have become costlier and the people find it hard to carry on with life.
"Under these circumstances, I cannot speak in favour of the BJP. I have opted to remain silent. Now, the BJP is in power at the centre, state and also in the city corporation here. But if I side with the BJP, I will surely be scolded. Having been hurt mentally, I have resigned from the post of the president of the booth committee," he said. The incident happened when the city unit of BJP was handing over name boards to the presidents of every booth along with the party symbol.
