Mangalore: Sr Lilly Completes 25 Years of Consecrated Life

Mangalore, Oct 3: Sr Lilly D’Almeida celebrated the completion of 25 years of her consecrated life as a ‘Sister of Charity’ of St Bartholomew and Vincenza Gerosa at a programme held at St Vincent Convent, Fr Muller Quarters, Kankanady here on Sunday October 3.

Father Muller Charitable Institutions (FMCI) director Fr Patrick Rodrigues concelebrated the Holy Mass along with FMCI administrator Fr Richard Coelho, assistant administrator Fr Vincent Vijay Saldanha, FMCI chaplain Fr Felix Monteiro, St Aloysius College professor Fr Francis D’Almeida, St Joseph’s Seminary professor Fr Roque D’Sa, Fr Denis Rasquinha, FMCI chaplain Fr Maxim Furtado and Mangalore diocesan former vicar general Fr Aloysius D’Souza.

Fr Francis D’Almeida in his homily conveyed best wishes to Sr Lilly for her consecrated life for Jesus Christ. Father Muller Medical College (FMMC) administrator Fr Denis D’Sa, Valencia parish priest Fr Bonaventure Nazareth, Father Muller Homeopathic Medical College administrator Fr Prakash D’Souza, St Joseph’s Seminary professor Fr Rony Serrao and St Joseph Seminary rector Fr Joseph Martis were conveyed their best wishes to Sr Lilly.

St Vincent Convent superior Sr Sylvia Fernandes welcomed the gathering. Sr Denny briefed on Sr Lilly’s vocation to religious order. Sr Jacinta D’Souza proposed the vote of thanks. Sr Angeline compered the programme.

About Sr Lilly

Sr Lilly is the last among eight children of the late Anthony and Alice D’Almeida, parishioners of St Joseph’s parish, Belman, Udupi. She had joined the Sisters of Charity and confirmed her religious order on March 25 1986.

She began her missionary work at Infant Mary’s Convent here and worked among the orphaned and disabled at Prashant Nivas Home for the Aged. She served as nurse at Fr Muller Medical College Hospital (FMMCH) after her nursing study and was a succour of elderly ailing patients.

She worked zealously at Bijapur Mission Center for six years and was popularly known as Doctor Sister by the people there. She returned to FMMCH where she had worked in surgical, orthopedic wards. She is currently working in the medicine ward.

25 years of service to needy one in the foot step of Jesus of Lord and Mother Mary. It is hard to obey and fulfill the God’s command in our life due to many responsibilities and desires. You Sr. Lilly obeyed God’s wish and today we are able to see the God’s Love to mankind through you. It is hard to leave our family and live for God’s word and you achieved it.
