Udupi, Sep 1: M Kurma Rao, took charge as the deputy commissioner (DC) of the district on Wednesday September 1. He later visited the schools and interacted with the students.
Speaking to media he said, “I got a special opportunity to welcome high school and pre-university students, on the first day of assuming charge. I got a moment to listen to their experiences. I am really happy. All schools have made good arrangements for the students and taken precautionary measures. Students are also following the Covid guidelines. I visited the Government Girls College and the attendance was very good.
“There is a need to eradicate Covid. We have to work together to make India Covid-free. We need to focus on unvaccinated people and get them vaccinated. Public should get involved in this work,” he said.
Responding to a query on the government imposing weekend curfew in Udupi, he said, “I have just joined today for the service. The government has passed the order. I can speak on this after conducting a meeting with the concerned officers.”
He further said, “I will work on priority and based on the opinion of the public, politicians and officials. I will take necessary action wherever required. I am interested in touring and through that I can interact with the general public and get opinions. I spoke to the outgoing DC and he explained me the current circumstances in Udupi. I have earlier worked as an assistant commissioner in Bhatkal. I will take up responsibilities one after another based on the priority.”
