Udupi, Oct 4: Vishwasada Mane, the name in itself infuses faith among the homeless and those in need of care. The care centre at Shankerpura has been panacea for many in need of helping hand, especially for people with unsound mind.

The centre headed by pastor Sunil John D'Souza now houses over 150 such people for treatment and care. Over 60 people are leading completely normal life joining their family after being treated here. People from far off states such as Orissa, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Kerala, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat apart from Bangalore and Mysore in the state have been rehabilitated.

The recent such case in the centre that was a success is that of Aslam, a youth from Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. Aslam was brought to the centre a year ago from Mangalore where he was found. The centre immediately began his treatment along with counselling sessions. Though for about three months Aslam maintained silence afterwards there was a improvemnt in Aslam's condition. Soon the almost normal Aslam about two months ago placed his desire to go to his folks.

On information given by Aslam, the centre contacted his folks through letters also sending along his photographs. After writing thrice to his parents, they contacted pastor Sunil recognizing Aslam to be their son.

Then came the good news, his uncle Nabeerullah Ansari came down to the centre and was surprised to see Aslam, now absolutely normal after four long years. He also thanked Pastor Sunil for this near miracle recovery. It was then revealed that Aslam then a SSLC student at Fateh Memorial College in Gorakhpur was heartbroken over a failure of a love affair and lost his mind. Though he was given medical treatment at nasik for about six months, he soon disappeared finally to be found after years in the centre. It is learnt that he reached Mangalore on a train from Gorakhpur.

The silver lining here is that Aslam now has promised to continue his education and get back on his feet on his return to his native.

David Simon, former chairman, state legislative council who recently visited the centre has assured of the government help to the centre after due discussion with the local MLA. Gurudas Bangalore, JD (S) leader accompanied Simon on the occasion.

Kudos to Pastor Sunil. I had an opportunity to visit "Vishwada Mane" last January, and was amazed at the wonderful & hard work done by the Pastor in bringing these homeless to live a normal life. I request all, especially the NRIs to do their part in helping society, by contributing to this divine work being done by the Pastor to give more coverage to these types of charity institutions. Thanks
